THE NASHVILLE TOUCH! My time at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and NADOA’s 45th Annual Institute can be described in one word: phenomenal! As a Scholarship Winner, I’ve been asked to write this article outlining my experience at this years’ conference, which I am extremely happy to do since my experience was so positive. I have to say since I’ve been to several Institutes over the years, this year was one of the best by far. The resort itself was over the top and very scenic with all the different areas, like little mini cities, so there wasn’t any reason to venture outside the resort for anything other than sightseeing. There were so many shops and restaurants inside the resort that there were plenty of places to venture and explore, and my room was excellent. I arrived early on Wednesday to attend the afternoon Escheat Panel Class, which was good. The discussion and ideas that were presented gave me some additional information that I brought home and discussed with others at my Company. It gave me some ideas on how to move forward with some current escheat related issues, so I was extremely glad that I got up at 3 am that morning to catch an early flight. The classes I attended on Thursday and Friday were all informative and most of the Speakers were enjoyable. I did attend a couple of classes where the Speakers preferred not to use the microphone, so it was hard to hear the entire presentation in those classes but overall, the classes were all good. Unfortunately, as in other years, there were a few class topics I wished I could have attended but the time conflicted with another choice, so I had planned to read through the presentations on-line. Thursday night at Ole’ Red was a lot of fun and the food choices were good. I heard nothing but positive comments on the food selections from everyone I talked with, and although I don’t dance, there were plenty of dancers out on the floor kicking up their heels. It was just a fun time and fantastic way to meet others in our industry. Putting faces with names of people you usually communicate with by phone or email and now in person was nice. It was a little hard to talk with others and carry on a conversation, without shouting, due to the loud music but all in all it was a very good event and fun night.

pounding on my door Friday morning. So on Thursday night before I went to bed I decided to setup the hotel phone for a wake-up call from “Blake Shelton”, and for those of you who requested a wake-up call, you know you could choose between several Country Stars to give you that wake-up call. However, Friday morning Blake never called, although I was up early anyway so I never thought any more about it and just as I was stepping into the shower I hear someone banging on my door shouting SECURITY! I was alarmed and quickly dressed and answered the door to the security guy saying, “Ma’am, I just needed to make certain you were okay because you didn’t answer your wake-up call”, which I assured him I was fine and that my phone never rang, and he left quickly. So that was my little excitement for the day on Friday. I enjoyed everything about Institute this year from beginning to end and really appreciate being a scholarship winner. I look forward to seeing everyone again next year! Pam Wells
