Community grant approvals Champlain Township council finished off its official business before the holiday break by approving administration recommendations for 21 community grant requests, including 12 for cash grants and nine for in-kind. The cash grants total $18,900 and include $4000 each to the Vankleek Hill & District Historical Society, the Higginson Tower Committee, and l’Ancienne prison de L’Orignal Old Jail group, $1500 to the Vankleek Hill Agricultural Society, $1000 each to Patrimoine L’Orignal-Longueuil Heritage group, la Banque alimentaire de L’Orignal Food Bank, and the Community Assistance Fund Vankleek Hill Food Bank, $500 each to the Vankleek Hill Cougars Junior Hockey Club, Ski-Vent Clic, and the Arbor Gal- lery Cultural Centre, $600 to the Vankleek Hill Curling Club, and $150 each to the Vankleek Hill Sunshine Euchre Club and the Vankleek Hill Golden Age Club. Nine groups received in-kind grants providing either reduced rates or free use of community facilities for special events. In return the groups were responsible for cleanup. – Gregg Chamberlain
Alisa Wangemann of Kottage Küche showed children and adults how to decorate a gingerbread man, in a hands-on fun workshop activity, Dec. 16, at the Vankleek Hill Farmers’ Market in the VankleekHill Collegiate cafeteria.The gingerbread man decorating activity replaced the annual Gingerbread House Competition, whichwas a Christmas season tradition organized at the Farmers Market through the efforts of the late Phil Arbor, as one of his many community activity projects.
