Scrinbe-Summer2026

JARED

WORKING IN the jewellery world, people often make quiet assumptions based on appearance, last name, or just the environment you’re in. There have been moments where a conver- sation shifts, sometimes into cultural references, sometimes even into jokes or stereotypes, and it’s clear the person speaking doesn’t realize who they’re speaking to. One moment that stands out wasn’t dra- matic, just subtle. A client made an offhand comment about jewellers “all being a certain way,” clearly not re- alizing they were speaking to someone who is Jewish. I didn’t feel the need to correct them in that mo- ment. I’ve learned that not every assumption needs to be confronted immediately, but it stayed with me, more as a reminder of how invisible identity can be when it’s not outwardly expressed.
