Water Quality Water quality is another critical issue. Pollutants such as dioxins, PCBs, and E. coli have been detected in major water bodies including Lake Worth, the Trinity River, and several creeks. Figure 4.8 presents a spatial overview of the areas and waterline segments within the City that are impacted by these pollutants. Transportation infrastructure contributes to runoff, which can degrade aquatic ecosystems and drinking water sources. The City promotes green infrastructure solutions, such as bioswales, rain gardens, and sediment traps to mitigate these impacts. The Fort Worth Stormwater Criteria Manual provides guidelines for designing systems that manage runoff and protect water quality. Pollutants such as dioxins, PCBs, and E. coli impair major water bodies across Fort Worth, with transportation-related runoff contributing to contamination; green infrastructure and stormwater management practices are essential to protect aquatic ecosystems and drinking water sources.
