ships worth nearly 14 million dollars in the Philadelphia area alone. And this year, we are on track to award close to 15 million dollars in scholarships,” he said. Secretary McCarthy identified some key points during his address to Kappa Alpha Psi. “1) Mr. Battles, you have woven over four decades of service and leadership in this great organization, 2) Your vision captured in the Kappa Six Point Plan, created a tangible strategy in which its’ members could come together and develop solutions, 3) The fruits of Mr. Battles’ plan are astound- ing: a Senior Kappa Endowment fund, leveraging new technologies such as the adoption of the Cloud, 4) leading the Capital Campaign for the African American Museum in Washington, D.C. and, 5) the establishment of the Military and Veteran Affairs Commission to ad- dress needs and concern for its’ military veterans.” He further highlighted a re- cent visit to the North Central Province of Kappa Alpha Psi and he shared that experience. “A few weeks ago, I was in Chi- cago and had the pleasure of meeting a few young men participating the Kappa League program under the leadership of your Grand Polemarch, there is no doubt that these youths are in capable hands.”...“This list is simply the wave- tops of a life of service that has a ripple effect through the community and na- tion. One man, as part of a brotherhood, raised his hand and said send me Mr. Battles, thank you for your service.” Secretary McCarthy acknowl- edged the service of Kappa men who are Veterans. “To all the veterans here today, old and young. Thank you for your service and the opportunity to continue to serve alongside you. Our nation owes you a great debt of gratitude. Members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity have selflessly served in every conflict since World War I and have achieved the highest enlisted and officer ranks. This alone, is a testament to the caliber of men in your organization.”

Psi, and the United States Army have many shared traits. We build networks where there once was nothing. We men- tor our members so that they may realize their potential. We galvanize our efforts towards a greater good. And lastly, and most importantly, we care for each other as if we were family. The combined ef- forts of each organization weave together communities and strengthen the fabric of the nation. Individuals, willing to
