ful, too. God, please change my heart right now, so that when Jesus comes back I can have a glorious body like His.” And God answered the first part of his prayer right then, and one day He will answer the rest of the prayer. It’s funny about Joe. Nowadays you hardly ever hear him use the word “ silly” ; and that expression, “ I’m from Missouri,” is almost a thing of the past.

NOT SO SILLY (Continued from Page H )

Then Joe remembered family worship the night before with his dear Christian father and mother, who believed every thing in the Bible. Joe was beginning to think his folks pretty old-fashioned. His dad had read the verses from Philip- pians 3, where it says, “ But our common wealth is in heaven, and from it we await a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will change our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power which enables him even to subject all things to himself.” Joe had some pretty sour thoughts, and before he knew it he had said out loud, “ Changed, pooh! That’s a silly idea. Whe wants to be changed? I’m satisfied to be just like I am.” If Joe had been older, people would have said he was skeptical, But that is too big a word to describe a boy of twelve, so they said he was a boy who had to be shown before he would believe. He had heard somebody say, “ I’m from Missouri,” and when he found out it meant “ I have to be shown before I be lieve,” Joe took it up. When he heard something new, Joe would pipe up, “ I’m from Missouri.” Joe’s parents were very easy with him about most things. They let him give up piano lessons when he said he didn’t like music. They let him raise rabbits, even though his mother had most of the care of them. They let him have a dog. They didn’t even fuss, as most parents do, when his report card wasn’t good. But when it came to things about church and Sunday school and the Bible, Mr. Joe had to fall in line with his par ents. He complained about lots of things, with only mild punishment; but he usu ally watched his tongue pretty carefully when it came to anything about church or the Bible. So when Joe made that terrible state ment about the Bible reading being silly, you can imagine how hurt his mother and father were. His dad said in a voice not so stern as it was sorrowful, “Joe, I believe you’d better go to your room and ask God to give you a different idea about this wonderful truth of the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the change it will make for those who love Him. Good night, son. God bless you!” God can use even a dream to bring a doubtful boy to believe His Word. Be fore Joe went downstairs that morning, he knelt beside his bed. Opening his Bible to Philippians 3:20, 21 he read the verses his dad had read the night before. As he closed his eyes to pray, he saw again robin redbreast released from his tomb; he saw again the little spring flower that had come from a tiny brown prison seed; he saw again the beautiful winged creature that had been an ugly caterpillar, and he said, “ Dear God, the idea of change isn’t silly. It’s a big truth in your Word, and I believe that You can change me into something wonder- A P R I L , 1 9 5 0
