The latest trends in paint colours

A novel way to decorate your windows

Are you wondering what the latest color trends are in interior decorating? If so, here’s what’s new: mixing warm and cold tones will be all the rage in 2013-2014, a combination that will bring newfound freedom to how we harmonize colors. Here is a brief update for those who like to keep their home décor in synch with the top trends. The dramatic trend for the coming months will see yellow and blue adorning our walls. These two dynamic colours are

often used in interior decorating; in fact yellow, which made an initial comeback in 2012, will continue to lend radiance to our homes in 2014. If you want to cre- ate a designer look, choose a lemon yel- low combined with dark grey and black. Alternatively, mustard or honey yellow will be popular as well; blended with the reddish tones of walnut or mahogany furniture or with wine-coloured accessories, these tones are sure to please. After the joyful tones of yellow come the blues to warm our hearts. Often considered a cold colour, shades like lavender blue, duck egg blue, royal blue, and periwinkle will blend perfectly with strong, saturated colours such as red, pink, or yellow. The spearhead of this latest trend is navy blue, which blends perfectly with off-whites and luminous greys to trans- form architectural features such as chi- mneypieces, staircases, or headboards.

Putting an adhesive decorative film on a room’s windows can quickly change the feel of the space, whether it is used to add colour to the glass or for added pri- vacy that doesn’t compromise lumino- sity. A wide range of self-sticking film is available, including transparent, opaque, frosted, coloured, patterned, or with geo- metrical lines. Window film has many advantages; above all, it is esthetically pleasing and offers multiple decorating possibilities. It is great in kitchens to embellish islands, fixed or sliding partitions, or doors to other rooms. It can also be used directly on the windows of your home as a dressing, which allows you to create a personalized décor. Patterned film is great for creating more privacy, but wher- ever you decide to put it, the final result is sure to let in plenty of na- tural light. Before putting up any decorative film, clean the glass so that it is free of dust, grease, and debris. Glass is the ideal surface, as polycarbona- tes can cause problems with bubbles. Vitrostatic film is applied on wet glass, and adhesive film is put on either dry or after its adhesive

side has been thoroughly moistened. For this procedure, it is recommended to use slightly soapy water and to spray the entire surface while removing the pro- tective backing. Solar film for windows has the advan- tage of preventing the sun’s UV rays from entering a room and discolouring objects that are close to windows. This kind of film also provides insulation to help keep your home cooler.

The top two “in” colours of the season: curry yellow and duck egg blue.

Window film is sold by the metre, in precut sheets, or in rolls.
