Hit-and-run driver tracked down the scene of an accident. When they caught up with him, he ended up with more than just a hit-and-run charge. Early in the evening on Nov. 26, the Hawkesbury OPP detachment received a call about a two-vehicle collision on McGill Street in Hawkesbury.

The suspect was later found, and police determined that the driver had been drin- king. They also discovered that his driver’s licence was suspended, and that the car he was driving didn’t belong to him and was taken without the owner’s consent. Alain Clement, 45, of Hawkesbury was charged with impaired driving, driving with a blood-alcohol level exceeding 80 milligrams, taking a vehicle without permission, failing to remain at an accident scene, and driving with a suspended driver’s licence.
Police had to track down a driver who left
Police investigation determined that one vehicle was stopped on the street to make a left turn when a 2004 Hyundai Accent, light-blue in colour, came up behind, didn’t stop, and hit the first car, causing “severe damages” to both vehicles. The driver of the stopped car sustained “very minor injuries” according to the police incident brief.
Shoplifting charge Police have charged Melissa Duval, 35, of Vankleek Hill in Champlain Township, with theft under $5000 value and breach of probation after investigation of a reported shoplifting incident at the Canadian Tire outlet in Hawkesbury, on Dec. 12. Store security camera footage showed her leaving the store with a cordless hand vacuum. Police incident brief noted that Duval was on a probation order at the time of the incident, which would be considered a breach of her release conditions. Duval is scheduled for the January 18 provincial court session in L’Orignal. – Gregg Chamberlain
