Whether you have hurt your back, neck or have been suffering for a long time, seeing a physiotherapist, chiropractor or registered Massage therapist at We-Fix-U can help you return to a more active and pain-free life. Give us a call today:

Is My Neck Pain Caused by Stress? Pain worsened by keeping your head in one place — like when you’re driving, or using a computer — is neck pain. While neck pain has a slew of symptoms, its major symptoms, reported by We-Fix-U, are: • Muscle tightness and spasms • Headache • Decreased ability to move the head Stress-induced neck pain isn’t rare. It also isn’t psychological. Many physiotherapists think stress-induced neck pain is caused by physical factors — low, but constant, trapezius muscle activity. If your neck pain starts at the base of your shoulders, traveling upward, it may be stress related. Causes of Stress-Related Neck Pain While stress alone can trigger neck pain, a few factors can make it worse. Office environments tend to create neck pain problems — as they confine people to chairs, bad posture and little mobility. Driving often, too, can make your chances of stress-related neck pain higher.

The National Library of Medicine suggests contacting a Health Care professional like a Physiotherapist, Chiropractor or Reg. Massage therapist if you’re experiencing neck pain. Even if it’s caused by stress, untreated neck pain might later reveal muscle spasms, arthritis, bulging discs or even narrowed spinal nerve openings.

HOWPHYSIOTHERAPY & CHIROPRACTIC CAN HELP NECK PAIN

Neck pain, fortunately, can be alleviated with physiotherapy, massage and chiropractic programs. Because neck pain is often caused by activity, different activity can cure it. Sometimes, this “activity” means “no activity.” Before you contact a professional, try reducing your neck movements. Sometimes, simply letting your neck muscles relax is enough. If you don’t see relief within two weeks, contact a professional. Physiotherapists, Reg. massage therapists or Chiropractors can target your pain’s source by examining your symptoms. Then, they can offer exercises that stress, flex and relax your neck muscles. In time, your neck will become more resilient — giving you the comfort you deserve. Where after-care treatment is considered, custom-tailored neck exercises will assure your neck stays loose, limber and healthy. If you’re dealing with neck pain, you’re not alone. Call our office today, and schedule an assessment. Even if your neck pain is caused by stress, it still needs attention. We’ll work side by side with your goals, creating the proactive, effective programs you need to achieve mobility once more.

WHEN DOES IT OCCUR Fungus infection occurs when fungal debris becomes trapped under the nail, often as the result of an injury to the nail. Topical treatments have been somewhat effective, however, they are limited to treating minor infections and patients must apply the medication up to twice a day for a year. While oral drugs have exhibited some success rate, such treatment is associated with common adverse side effects, including gastrointestinal and skin disorders, headaches and abnormal liver function. Cristol Smyth, Chiropodist and co-owner of We-Fix-U says the laser system provides a safe and effective alternative to conventional treatment options for nail fungus. “While traditional treatment options have been limited due to either insufficient outcomes or patient concerns regarding side effects, our laser system provides a reliable, nontoxic option that is much easier to use and well tolerated by patients,” Ms. Smyth said. “In a few 10-20 minute sessions, we can treat a patient who has been suffering for years with unsightly, deformed and discolored toenails, all without any downtime for our patients.” Topical treatments have been somewhat effective, however, they are limited to treating minor infections and patients must pply th medication up to twic a day for a y ar. ARE GROWING PAINS REAL?

It would start with a mild ache and gradually worsen to a deep throb, forcing me to rub my shin with my other foot, doing what I could to stop the pain. I remember this pain like it was yesterday. When I was younger I used to frequently wake up, howling in pain and clutching my shins. My mom would cuddle me, place warm cloths on my legs and rub them in attempt to comfort me. I remember trips to several doctors; my mother constantly searching for new opinions, but without fail was always told that I suffered from “growing pains”. Does this sound familiar? My mother never really accepted my given diagnosis because all children grow, but not all children experience pain. The reality is that growing pains are real and affect about 20% of children (numbers vary depending on which study you read). Growing pains are essentially pains in the leg muscles (not the joints), experienced frequently or infrequently, in children aged 2-12 years of age. Pain generally occurs at night. Nobody fully understands why they happen, but one thing is clear: they have nothing to do with growth. The term “growing pains” first came to fruition in the 1800’s, but since then medical professionals have realized that the pain doesn’t correspond to a period of rapid growth. Unfortunately, the name stuck. I’d prefer to call it “non-inflammatory pre-pubescent nocturnal leg pain syndrome”, but I guess “growing pains” is faster and easier to say. The most accepted cause of growing pains is muscle fatigue from over-activity. This theory meshes with parental observations that growing pains are often worse on nights after sports practices or long periods spent walking or running. In my profession we also correlate growing pains with feet that aren’t aligned and supported properly. Poor foot alignment and function cause instability of the feet during weight bearing activities and can be a significant cause of growing pains in children, particularly in children who have very flat feet, ankles which roll inward and are very flexible. This causes uneven weight bearing through the foot as well as misalignment of joints further up the body, causing muscle strain. Growing pains do tend to run in families. This holds true with my own family. My husband and I both experienced growing pains when we were children and our children have shared this same experience (that’s how we know when they have failed to listen to their “foot specialist” parents and chose to wear shoes which are less than suitable. See, mom always does know best!).

Growing pains is characterized by aching or throbbing pain in one or both legs at night. There is no swelling, not visible sign of injury, no pain when touched and does not cause your child to limp. If your child wakes up complaining of aching, throbbing legs, try the following to soothe his or her discomfort: • Apply warm cloths or a heating pad to the aching area. Remove once your child has fallen asleep. • Have your child get up and walk • Rub your child’s legs with a soothing cream • Have your child stretch the muscles in their leg • If all else fails, try giving your child a pain reliever. Offer your child ibuprofen or acetaminophen. • To prevent growing pains, have your child wear supportive shoes, especially with increased activity. If your child experiences growing pains, make an appointment with a Chiropodist, who will determine if your child has a foot problem which may be causing his or her night time pain, and will discuss appropriate and effective treatment options. No more sleepless nights for either of you! - Cristol Smyth, D.Ch. (Chiropodist)
