Excellence in Sustainability
The judging panel highlighted the project’s lasting impact of delivering social value in partnership with local providers, as well as supporting women and girls to engage with construction and build life skills. According to the judges, this project encapsulates the transformation that can be achieved at an individual level through delivering social value. The partnership between CTS, Women’s TEC and the Bolster Community charity featured an innovative delivery approach, which provided the basis of a successful UKG Levelling-up Fund application. Consequently, this work will be able to continue beyond the life of the contract, creating life-changing support for women and girls in the area. WINNER: WOODVALE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY
Woodvale Construction Company prides itself on being a sustainability-conscious company endeavouring to protect environmental resources for future generations. It aims to construct new buildings with care and consideration for local neighbours and landscapes and strive at all times to conserve natural resources. Sustainability Officer Paul Martin has recently completed his IOSH Managing Sustainably Accreditation. The contractor’s passionate and enthusiastic commitment to sustainability really came across to the judging panel, which applauded initiatives in ongoing commercial operations such as embedding biodiversity measures in construction sites. The judges were also impressed by their deep engagement with the wider community, for example in primary school biodiversity projects. As past winner of the Social Value Project of the Year, Woodvale Construction nurtures strong relationships with local schools, regional colleges and universities, providing site visits, construction career workshops and work experience opportunities to promote and encourage careers in construction and address skills shortages, especially in heritage trades. The company stood out for being a medium-sized, family- owned business that has devoted considerable investment and resources across a wide range of activities, as demonstrated by an impressive track record of environmental improvement measures combined with an equally focused commitment to community activities.
