Fit-Out Project of the Year
The refurbished library building is a modern, flexible space, combining traditional reference materials and IT provision, with multiple study and social spaces. The project’s complexity arose from the challenge of conducting renovations while ensuring that the interconnected existing structures and central courtyard remained operational. High-quality materials ensured excellent acoustic performance throughout the diverse spaces – including a three-storey atrium, collaborative stair and audio- visual screen – which fostered connections between social and quiet areas. The judges recognised the project as a catalyst for uniting other buildings on the complex and with connections to the surrounding local community, showcasing collaboration, innovation and accessibility. Templemore Baths made a huge impression on the judges, as it consisted of a meticulous repair and restoration project with a modern extension. The contractor’s attention to detail and contribution to the heritage value of the building were incredible. Heron Bros even rescued valuable artefacts for displays to reimagine the history of the building. The contractor ran courses with its own expert staff to train joiners, tilers and bricklayers in the skills and techniques required by heritage projects. The mix of skilled conservation craftsmanship and the latest digital tools has given ownership of a much-loved building back to the local community.
