Situated on the award-winning Comber Greenway, the Bloomfield Walkway Community Centre showcases seamless collaboration between architect, contractor and the Walkway Community Association. This versatile building features a multi- purpose hall, offices, creche, meeting rooms, café and exhibition spaces. Despite the relatively small site, the building does not feel in any way constrained, with an open ambiance that reflects the ethos of the organisation it was built for. It stands as a vital community hub, lauded by the judges for its efficient site usage and community impact; it will serve as a beacon of positive change and support for years to come. The project that clinched victory in this year’s category was truly one of a kind. The judges found the comprehensive site redevelopment, within a newly landscaped parkland context, presented a distinctive set of challenges. The building’s technical function as Northern Ireland’s second crematorium was executed with precision, demanding the contractor to demonstrate technical expertise in complex electrical and mechanical services. These services encompassed both the crematorium’s functionality and the aesthetically pleasing aspects of the building and landscaping. Additionally, the building adhered to sustainable principles and offers an elegant pavilion with associated parking, gardens, and landscaping, providing a dignified environment.
