Criminal Investigations Division Specially trained detectives who investigate high profile offenses comprise the Criminal Investigations Division (CID). Detectives earned promotions above the police officer rank, equivalent to a Corporal, and investigate crimes divided into the following sections: Violent Personal Crimes Section, the Special Victims Section, the Victim’s Assistance Section, and the Forensic/Economic Crimes Section.

Each CID unit will have a detective or sergeant attend at least one Patrol Roll Call per month. Create a detective development program in which detectives/officers from other divisions can spend a month on loan to one of the CID Units. Develop a basic Detective Training Manual for use Department-wide. Create an audit process to ensure all detectives work their cases in a timely, thorough manner. Organize and host a monthly regional CID meeting w/ all internal CID Units, surrounding agencies, federal, state and local partners.

Violent Personal Crimes Section The Violent Personal Crimes Section includes the Homicide, Major Cases, Fugitive, and the Robbery Unit. The Homicide Unit investigates all deaths in the city, with the exception of officer-involved shootings, auto accident fatalities, and some child deaths. The Major Case Unit responds to critical police incidents such as officer-involved shootings, incidents resulting in the serious injury or death of an officer or suspect, in- custody deaths, kidnappings, missing persons, human trafficking, and other high-profile incidents. The Fugitive Unit is responsible for serving felony and misdemeanor arrest warrants that originate from within the FWPD, and the Robbery Unit investigates all robbery offenses in the city.
