MAKING AN IMPACT WORLDWIDE AN ECO-FRIENDLY SET OF SHADES

With a team by their side, the Dame brothers made a change in these communities in education, visual and oral health, economic development, and environmental conservation. They aim to give people the tools they need to fight back against poverty and live better lives. The Peru Project helped 592 people receive eye care and included screenings, medicine, prescriptions, and the distribution 327 optical readers. Over 599 people received dental care, ranging from fluoride treatments to extractions. In addition, 588 toothpaste tubes and toothbrushes were given out, and people also received lessons on how to properly clean their teeth. The team also donated and planted 500 trees, funded the building of three wells, cleared a 4km stretch of road, built four brick stoves, and constructed a greenhouse. When Brooks says they pride themselves on giving back, it’s clear to see why. In one decade, Proof Eyewear, which started in Brooks’ garage, has grown to reach thousands of people globally. It was these brothers’ determination, initiative, and hard work that led them to overwhelming success and making the world a better place. And now, you can too. Making a difference can be as easy as volunteering your time, donating, or buying a pair of sunglasses. Visit Proof Eyewear at IWantProof.com today and browse through their eco-friendly and world- changing shades.

“When we started Proof, we really focused on two things: sustainability and giving back,” Brooks explains in a short but informative video on their website. When it comes to sustainable materials, these brothers know exactly what to use. Using a combination of cotton-based acetate, recycled aluminum, sustainably sourced wood, and repurposed skateboard decks, Proof Eyewear’s glasses are truly sustainable. As Brooks says, their eyewear “is not only good for Mother Nature, but it also looks good.” But there was much more that Tanner, Brooks, and Taylor wanted to achieve. Their ultimate goal was to help the Earth and impoverished people around the world. Proof Eyewear’s bird logo design coincides with their belief that, “Everyone has wings to fly; some just need a little help.” “We donate a large portion of our sales to an eye clinic in India that provides sight-giving cataract surgery for those in need,” Brooks said. But their generous nature doesn’t stop there. Since their start in 2010, the three brothers have hosted several Do Good projects both locally and globally. They and their team have worked tirelessly to provide tsunami relief in Japan, help reforestation in Haiti, aid in child soldier rehabilitation in Africa, and help with community projects all over the world, donating thousands of dollars in the process.

Helping the Earth has become an increasingly important topic with every passing year, as has the movement to actively help it and its people. There are hundreds of organizations and millions of people who dedicate their time, effort, and money to help those in need and make a positive impact on the world. Their inspirational stories urge us to follow in their footsteps and make influences of our own. And there’s no story quite like that of the three Idahoan brothers who founded Proof Eyewear. Tanner, Brooks, and Taylor Dame grew up on a family mill and often describe themselves as having “sawdust in our veins.” It was Brooks who came up with the idea of wood consumer products and began to put that idea into motion. Together, the brothers wanted to put a product into the world that would help people and the Earth. So, they turned their sights on eyewear. There are thousands of people who wear sunglasses day after day. Unfortunately, all of these sunglasses end up sitting in a landfill. These three brothers decided they were going to do something about that. With their skills in woodworking, they began crafting the most eco-friendly sunglasses in the world.

In March 2019, the brothers traveled to Peru, where they spent 10 days volunteering. Proof

Eyewear writes that in 2017, Peru’s poverty rate reached the highest it had been in 16 years, according to Peru’s National Statistics Institute. The people living in these conditions have limited access to basic needs, including regular medical, dental, and eye care.
