March 10— “ God Almighty appeared unto me at Lus in the land o f Canaan, and blessed me, and said unto me, Behold, 1 will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make o f thee a company of peoples, and w ill give this land to thy seed after thee fo r an everlasting posses sion” (Genesis 48:3, 4). Praise God for the memory of our great experiences o f H im ! And if we have not had them, we ought to have them, and we may have them by seeking for them. It is a great day when God makes Himself known to a man in utterly new fulness, showing him Christ not only as his Saviour, but as his life: Christ as the entire being, the whole man, body, mind, soul, and spirit. And in that flood-tide of new blessing God promises to the man such spiritual fruit-bearing as he had never before known was possible (for it is now Christ, not the man, who will do the whole work), and God promises, too, that the new glory-blessing that has come shall be multiplied, through the man, out into the lives o f a company of peoples, and “this land,” the new wealth, Christ the life, shall be given unto all these “ for an everlasting possession.” Can such a day ever be forgotten? Like all our best bless ings and experiences, it is a sheer, out right gift from God. It is not a matter of growth, or cultivation, by ourselves: it is just “Ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.” Father, hold us truer to the rich memory o f our rich past!— Messages for the Morning Watch. —0— March 11—“ Out o f the eater came forth meat, and out o f the strong came forth sweetness” (Judges 14:14). I once heard a man speak of lost sor row. At first I did not know what he meant. But his thought quickly emerged and I saw it all. A lost sorrow was a sorrow out of which a man failed to get the blessing which God meant to come out o f it for him. Out of every sorrow God means there should come submis sion; a drawing nearer to His own great heart of love; a new vision o f the shal lowness o f worldly streams and the depth o f divine ones; a closer devotion o f Jesus Christ than ever before known; a loosen ing o f the grasp on time, and its tighten ing upon eternity. It is a solemn fact which some of us know all too well that sorrow leaves us either closer to God or farther away. It is a double-edged tool. It either scars or beautifies. By our re sistance we may make it a head-wind baffling and driving our tiny craft back from its destined haven o f rest. But by our submission God will make it to be a favoring one to waft us onward into the safety and tranquil rest o f His perfect will.— James H. McConkey. O blows that smite! O hurts that pierce This shrinking heart of mine! What are ye but the Master’s tools Forming a work divine I —o— March 12— "She shall sing there as in the days o f her youth” (Hosea 2:15). You say that you can never sing again, that the spring and gladness o f your life are gone forever; you insist upon it that you must go mourning to the end o f your days, and that life can only bring added
