The BeautyBulletin CRAZY TO BUILD DURING COVID-19? JUNE/JULY 2021 A HALF-DECADE PLAN COMES TO FRUITION

Some people looked at our construction process for the new building and thought we were crazy to build during COVID-19. In fact, that’s pretty much a direct quote. And they’d have been right – if we’d only been doing it for that one year. The fact is, 2020 and 2021 are just the finale to a show that’s been in the works since at least 2016. Most readers will be familiar with our 4,000-square-foot practice building, but they may not have realized exactly how small that building had become for us in the past few years. Fortunately, we saw the writing on the wall long before telling anyone about our concerns, and by the time we announced the groundbreaking, things were well on their way.

We want patients to feel comfortable here from consultation to procedures to follow-up, and to that end we’re making sure the rest of the patient

experience is as wonderful as possible. We’ve built a private

gym into the premises and also an accompanying locker room with shower facilities. We even put a Tesla charging station out front!

I won’t lie: None of this was easy to make happen. We’re no strangers to planning and executing on those plans, but this was a big, multi-year dream project, and there were times (aren’t there always?) when I looked in the mirror and wondered what we were doing. We had a dedicated family of patients, with more joining every month, but was this something we could pull off? What carried me through was the knowledge that the building had been designed from the beginning to be the best thing for those patients, bar none. And as things came along, even with permits, long hours, blueprint revisions, and then the COVID-19 pandemic, that gave me the confidence to continue. Could I have backed off on some of the plans? Probably so, but who would it be helping in the long run? Not the patients. And not the clinic itself, which now has plenty of “runway” for it to continue taking off. And now ... move-in day has arrived! Are you excited yet? We sure are. And this is just the beginning – the beginning of a new era of patient experience, because our patients deserve the best. From state-of-the-art technology, to medispa pampering in a calming, rejuvenating environment, we’re going to provide exactly that and more. We want to thank all of you for taking this journey with us, and we can’t wait for the time to be right so we can open the new office the right way – with a one-of-a-kind patient blowout party!

Besides, what else were we going to do last year?

We do recognize that a 20,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art medical clinic is a pretty serious “lockdown project.” But that just makes us more excited — because when it comes to meeting patients’ needs and providing our own brand of tier-one medispa treatments and surgical procedures, this new office will be unparalleled. Five times larger than the previous space, we’re able to give more room for everything that was beginning to feel cramped in the old building, as well as plan for future growth. This office comes with two certified ASC operating rooms, furnished with the best, brand-new equipment that exists. The need for two rooms and the top-of-the-line furnishings was obvious to us, as a clinic with three board- certified plastic surgeons on staff as well as an ever-growing cohort of team members. But that’s just the beginning of our desire to create a unique, unforgettable experience here in Houston for our existing and future patients. The first thing many will notice is the outdoor garden area, sized perfectly for events (when we can have them again!) and decorated with a “waterfall wall” that provides a soothing element to the space. New as well is our breathtaking spa, expanded from its last home, and a relaxation area that says “girls’ night out” in all the important ways.

Watch this space for more on that ...

EAT LESS MEAT WITHOUT GOING MEATLESS 3 Celebrity Chefs Prove It’s Possible and Delicious America is the land of the free and home of one of the world’s highest per capita meat-consuming cultures. While veganism and plant-based diets seem to be trending among celebrities from Beyonce to Bill Clinton, most Americans are not ready to relinquish their burgers and bacon entirely. A recent Gallup poll found that the percentage of Americans who identify as vegetarian or vegan has barely shifted in the last 20 years, holding steady at 5% and 3%, respectively. But two trends are starting to converge, making flexitarian diets — ones with plant-based and meatless meals — more appealing: The concern over high carbon emissions tied to meat production and the increased availability of plant-based meatless but meat-like options. Add that to the evidence of the negative health effects of consuming too much red meat, and shifting to a flexitarian diet starts to make a lot of sense. Who better to lead this shift in American eating habits than well-known chefs? These three celebrity chefs are proving that eating less meat doesn’t have to mean sacrificing flavor.

Gordon Ramsay Ramsay has made jabs at the animal rights organization PETA and other characteristically brash comments against vegetarianism in the past, but after judging on Vegan Celebrity MasterChef in 2018, Ramsay says he lost weight by eating five small flexitarian meals a day. He’s also started experimenting with plant-centric dishes like beet wellington, subbing the earthy root vegetable for traditional red meat. Jamie Oliver It’ll come as less of a surprise that Oliver has gone flexitarian and started incorporating more meatless meals into his diet. Oliver’s 2010 show “Food Revolution” took a peek behind American school lunches and sought to bring healthier fare to kids around the country. Oliver has since released a meat-free cookbook and says eating less meat has improved his sleep and is better for the planet. Martha Stewart Known for her cooking as well as her crafting, Stewart has been championing plant-based meals since 2013 when her vegetarian cookbook “Meatless” was published. Last year, she joined forces with the innovative plant-based meat substitute company Beyond Meat to help launch their new breakfast sausage line.

Is There Still Time for ‘Bikini Season’ Augmentation?

We’re blessed here in Texas to have a long, hot summer. Although it may not feel like much of a blessing at 3 p.m. on any given afternoon in July, it’s something to really appreciate when we consider procedures designed to make our patients look as good in a bikini as they feel after the heat breaks in the early summer evening. The fact is, it takes some time to recover from many procedures. Whether you’re looking at breast augmentation or implants, which takes a week or two before you’re ready to strut your stuff, or the 4–6-week “settling period” with body contouring, it’s a necessary period of healing that allows your body to finish the job we do in the clinic. Up north, if you don’t get these things taken care of by the end of May, you’re not going to get the most out of the season before it ends in September. Fortunately, down here the “season” lasts close to six months — and that’s being conservative. There’s plenty of time to enjoy your bikini body,

even if you go in for a procedure in July or early August. Of course, the sooner the better; summer can always be a month shorter or longer than in the past, and after all, why wait? Whether you’re ready to rock a two-piece or just need a day off in our medical spa, our clinic is here to serve you. We approach every situation with patient health and happiness as our No. 1 goal, and we know better than anyone that a varied approach is the only way to serve a varied clientele. When you need something for you , it’s time to call us .

speaking, simply writing down a road map for your train of thought can help you recover from a detour and speak more confidently.

FOURTH OF JULY FUN FACTS TO SHARE WITH THE KIDS

You Can Share With Your Kids Fun Facts About the Fourth of July

Declaration of Independence. This fact might seem like a no-brainer, but it contextualizes the holiday for kids. It’s a great jumping-off point to talk about why the United States wanted to be its own country, what the Continental Congress was, what the Declaration of Independence said, and what it means to “ratify” something. Two future presidents signed the Declaration of Independence: John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. They both died exactly 50 years later, on July 4, 1826. This fact is an interesting coincidence sure to fascinate both kids and adults. It’s also a great way to introduce kids to some of the Founding Fathers and share how they helped shape the United States today.

In 1776, the year the United States was founded, only 2.5 million people lived here. Today, the U.S. population is 331 million. Lots of people have been born in the United States since it was founded, and millions more came here from other places, hoping to find a better life. Many succeeded, too. Many people want to call this country home! On the Fourth of July, around 155 million hot dogs are eaten in the United States. Okay, so this fact might not have anything to do with American history, but it’s still pretty funny! If anything, the fact that we have so many hot dogs to eat on that day is evidence of the prosperity so many people enjoy in the United States of America.

What do your kids know about the Fourth of July? Do they know it’s a day when you have a barbecue, spend time with friends and neighbors, and watch a fireworks show? These hallmarks of the holiday certainly do make it fun and memorable, but they don’t really exemplify why we celebrate the Fourth of July, the anniversary of when the United States declared its independence from Britain. So, along with the sparklers and hot dogs, here are a few fun facts about Independence Day you can share with your kids to help them understand the significance of the holiday. The Fourth of July marks our country’s independence because it’s when the Continental Congress ratified the
