She recently learned to play “Happy Birthday” on her saxophone so she can help celebrate friends and family on their birthdays. She embodies the loving, caring West Virginia spirit.

He experienced an illness that landed him in the PICU at WVU Medicine Children’s. Sea- mus knows how lucky he has been to have a home, plenty of food, exceptional educational opportunities, and parents who love him, and he decided that he wants to help the best way he can while staying quarantined at home. So he has begun raising money for UNICEF USA, which works to keep children healthy and learning, and protected from sickness and vio- lence. To encourage donations, he thought of a fun incentive: for every $500 raised, he will post a video of one of his parents hilariously failing at something! He is up to $525 to date, with one video down.

Chase, 11 Preston County

He’s always willing to help others before himself. In the last year he’s grown into a young adult and has been brave through everything this year has thrown at him.

She was born with pulmonary atresia but, after two open-heart surgeries, she is do- ing very well. She is growing like a weed. She loves to dance and to help her grand- mother whenever she needs it.

Ashlyn, 11 Preston County She has made more than 300 face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. She donated them to neighbors, hospitals, a cancer patient, essential store workers, and federal prison personnel in West Virginia, as well as sending 100 face masks to the Deputy Chief of Pediatrics, Navajo Nation, in Tuba City, Arizona. She demonstrated true West Virginia spirit by seeing a need and working to help people stay safe and healthy.
