The company offered the lowest bid to a joint tender call issued by the township and the United Counties of Prescott-Russell. The township also negotiated a separate contract with the company to provide fuel for boaters at the L’Orignal Marina. – Gregg Chamberlain HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION The annual spring Household Hazardous Waste Day collection is May 4 at the Hawkesbury Wastewater Treatment Plant on Main Street. Homeowners in the Hawkes- bury, Champlain Township, and East Hawkesbury Township areas can bring used paints and solvents, aerosol spray cans, old/unused pesticides, old motor oil and other automotive fluids, household cleaners, used batteries, and various other items for safe disposal. Check the Hawkesbury municipal website prior to collection day to determine exact items allowed for dropoff. – Gregg Chamberlain WATER LINE BREAK A crack, April 17, in one of the main water lines for Vankleek Hill resulted in some restricted water service for a day. A frost shift caused a crack in the line alongside Highway 34. The crack was in the section west of the village near the Howe’s Farm Equipment site. MP Francis Drouin announced an investment of $100,000 in L’Orignal Packing as part of the federal government’s Women Entrepreneurship Strategy, a $2-billion investment that seeks to double the number of women-owned businesses by 2025. The owner of L’Orignal Packing, Christine Bonneau-O’Neill (centre), wishes to use this money as part of branding and marketing investment and to explore digital advertising, in order to stimulate growth and reach new markets. The announcement was made at L’Orignal Packing on Wednesday, April 17.
