ATC ‘22 ARBORPALOOZA: EXPLORING THE WIDE WORLD OF TREES

From Inspection to Analysis to Specifications Monday, October 3, 2022 | 1 pm to 3 pm (2 CEUs) Presenter: Guy Meilleur Location: Bay 6

Arborists can be objective by taking note of positive features like beneficial as - sociates and response growth. Inspection is a vital complement to Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ), with its focus on defects and targets. Only after a careful inspection can a credible opinion on likelihood of failure be formed. Inspection is also an essential first step before planning any work on a tree. This step might seem like an aggravation, but it can open up new revenue streams. Inspection by itself can be a stand-alone service. As a consultant, my primary ser - vice is landscape inventory, based on a walk around the property. Written specifi - cations are the primary deliverable. Writing specifications need not take long, us - ing modern technology. Pictures of the trees in question can be emailed to clients with voice dictation providing specs as captions below each one. Participants are encouraged to bring their own tools and tablets for this interactive program.

Guy Meilleur (May-er’) is an ISA Board-Certified Master Arborist, and author of 34 episodes in ISA’s Detective Dendro series. He is a former curator and lecturer at NC State University, Instructor at Duke University, and staff arborist at the University of North Car - olina. He is the chair of the ANSI A300 standard for tree inspec - tion and root management and US contact for the Veteran Tree Network. He manages trees with flare care, soil building, support and lightning systems, pruning, and community education.
