INTEGRATION OF PSYCHOLOGY AND THEOLOGY
Rosemead's curriculum is distinguished by a series of seminars designed to investigate the mutual relationships between theological and psychological concepts and data. These seminars constitute an essential part of Rosemead training and offer students an opportunity to become involved in a creative application of shared insights from these related disciplines. Each student must take one course from each of the following categories and one further course from any one of the three categories. Prerequisites for enrollment in integration seminars include completion of RPTI 721 or RPTI 722 and commencement of individual psychotherapy (RPSY 716).
Introductory
RPTI 501 INTEGRATION COLLOQUIUM (0)
A required , noncredit colloquium which introduces first year students to the issues and approaches utilized in the integration of psychology and theology. (Required.) Academic-Theoretical RPTI 721 THE NATURE AND SCOPE OF INTEGRATION (3) This required course includes a discussion of the models, levels, and areas in which integration of the theological and psychological can occur as well as a framework for conceptualizing the scope of integration in its entirety. Prerequisites: completion of at least one course in Theology and second year standing. (Elective.)
RPTI 722 SYSTEMS OF INTEGRATION (3)
A critical evaluation of the works of specific theologians and psychologists who have attempted to integrate the disciplines of psychology and theology. Attention will be given to the approaches of such theorists as Adams, Brown ing, Crabb, Gothard, Mowrer, Oden, Tournier, Van Kaam, and Wagner. (Elective.) Research RPTI 731 DEVELOPMENT OF RELIGIOUS UNDERSTANDING IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS (2) An assessment of the cognitive and affective meanings which children and adolescents attribute to religious concepts, practices, and experiences, and their changes in meaning during the course of individual development. The biblical perspective of religious development will be examined. May also be taken for psychology credit as RPSY 610. (Elective.)
