By Jamie Barrie W ell it looks like Sears South of the boarder will be counting a throwback to the past to increase sales in the future. With Sears Canada closing its doors for good, Sears Holdings in the U.S. is hoping that bringing back their much loved Sears Christmas Wish Book will boost sales South of the border this Holiday season. The 120-page Wish Book will include holiday decor, home furnishings, games and toys, appliances, apparel, and more. It will be the first appearance of the iconic holiday catalog since 2011, and 84 years since the first Sears Wish Book, known then as the Sears Christmas Book catalogue rolled out in 1933, right in the midst of the Great Depression. The original holiday books were thick, easily more than 400 pages. Decades ago, parents and children alike could single-handedly craft their holiday wish lists from Sears offerings alone.
Online shoppers do not worry, there will also be a digital version available on Sears.com, and one on the retailer’;s app which will allow shoppers to click into pages and add items to a wish list with a like.
Now to get your hands on a physical copy, you need to be considered one of Sears’ “best members,” or a participant of the company’s Shop Your Way loyalty program. Tangible copies of the look book will be limited, according to Sears.
A holiday catalogue comeback is one way for Sears to stir up excitement in shopping its brands during the all-important November and December months as Sears Holdings has faced struggles of late with overall same-store sales declining. So there is a lot riding on this throw back to the past for increased sales in the future.
