Under Eye Dark Circles or Puffiness Under eye circles can be a common issue in aging, although this condition is also common in much younger people. There are many reasons for dark circles, including lack of sleep, stress, allergies, skin tone and genetics. Dark circles can range in colour and intensity—they are often a purplish or bluish colour and can be faint or extremely dark, depending on the thickness of the skin. As the skin ages, it loses collagen and subcutaneous fat and becomes hollower under the eyes where the skin can become thinner, almost translucent looking, to the point the tiny vessels underneath are more visible. Topical serums and creams, derma fillers and chemical peels are often a great option for these issues.
