• Topical serums and creams — Prescription retinoid can help thicken the skin in this area and increase new cell growth, which can help to decrease the look of dark circles. Creams or serums that are high in ceramides, hyal- uronic acid, or peptides can help to hydrate and stimulate the growth of collagen and elastin in aging skin, as well as help to plump the skin, and are also effective. Many creams and serums that use potent antioxidants, such as vitamins A, C, and E, can also be helpful to reduce the look of dark, under- eye circles. For puffy eyes, vasoconstriction products that contain caffeine are often a good choice, as well as products that help to reduce inflammation, such as those that contain antioxidants, peptides and/or hyal- uronic acid. • Derma fillers —Dermal fillers can add volume to saggy areas of skin, which helps to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles by smooth - ing out the area. As well, some derma fillers can help boost the production of collagen and elastin, which helps to improve the look of bagginess and hyperpigmentation in dark circles. • Chemical peels — Chemical peels are often helpful for these issues as they offer a deep exfoliation of older, dead skin, and exposes the healthy, new skin underneath. Chemical peels can help to stimulate new skin growth that is stronger and thicker and more vibrant.

Sagging Brows and Heavy Eyelids (Hooded Eyes) As we age and our skin naturally starts to lose elastin, subcutaneous fat and collagen, and it starts to sag. This can be especially noticeable on the eyelids and eyebrows as they start to sag. There are several good non-surgical options that can help with this issue, including Botox and derma fillers. • Botox — Botox can be especially helpful to lift the outer tail end of the eyebrow. This not only helps to elevate the brow, but it can also help lift the upper eyelid to reveal some of the eyelid skin that appears depressed. By injecting Botox into both the lower portion of the forehead and around the outer eyebrow tail, it paralyzes the depressor muscle that causes the eyebrow to droop but still allows the elevator muscles to raise the eyebrows. Even a very small amount of lift can make a huge difference to the overall look of the eyes, typically resulting in a more refreshed, vibrant and awake look that can take years off. • Derma fillers — Dermal fillers can add volume and can be very helpful when tar- geting droopy eyelids. When injected into the temples they can help to lift the eyes and brows. By increasing the volume of the temples with a filler, it can also help take away that “gaunt” look that can make people look and feel older. Dermal fillers that contain hyaluronic acid can be very effective in the tear trough area, which is the area around the inner corner of your eye and trails down along the side of your nose to your cheek. While aging will always be a natural part of the life cycle, there are now many effective and non-surgical ways to help us age more gracefully. Regardless of the type of treatment you choose, it is just as important to ensure you work with a qualified esthetic specialist who understands how each of the products work and how to natu- rally contour your face.
