Wade Brown “Love Bound” b/w “I Love You (I Really Do)” (Dreamer Records) 1979
This is a real heavy record everybody was looking for, so I brought it to Japan with me. It’s definitely one of the hottest disco cuts that’s popped out in a long time. You don’t hear anybody playing it—this one is way under the radar. People just know the one song, and you can’t “Shazam” this record—no results! I love that part, too. Sometimes I tell fans some information. You have to look out for them, because Ronnie [Hardy] and crew used to do that for me.
While on tour in Japan, Sadar Bahar reached into his travel bag to share the 45s he’s dusted off for his latest round of overseas gigs.
Brief Encounter “What About Love” b/w “Get Right Down (And Do It)” (Capitol) 1976
This is another real, real heavy piece. Everybody is looking for this.Anything by Brief Encounter is really rare.
Johnny Hammond “Yesterday Was Cool” b/w “Virgo Lady” (Salvation) 1974
Someone put the X on the play side there. I love when [records] have character like that—when people write their names on 45s, and put stamps on [the labels]. Then it’s got some history. Also, [it helps] when you have a party, everything is going so fast, and you need to keep the tempo going. When you’re looking down at the record, the little second it could take to flip it over means so much.
Kenny James Band “Hell in New York City” (Sound-Rite Records) Year Unknown
This record is a real one. My friend in New York sold me three or four of these back in the day, but he had the whole box! It’s crazy, almost like one of those old exploitation movie soundtracks!
