Dans le cas du coronavirus, le personnel de l’hôpital doit maintenant s’assurer qu’un patient qui a voyagé en Chine dernièrement soit mis en isolation à l’HGH. L’hôpital dispose de quatre à cinq chambres d’isolation à pres- sion négative, qui empêchent les microbes de s’échapper de la chambre où les patients sont traités, avec très peu de risques pour le personnel et les autres patients en dehors de cette zone. «Depuis que le gouvernement a annoncé les nouvelles mesures, on a rehaussé les mesures que nous avions en place pour tout type de virus», a expliqué Mme Larocque. De nouvelles banderoles ont été ajoutées à l’entrée de l’HGH, rappelant aux patients les mesures de protection contre la transmission desmicrobes, notamment le lavage desmains, le port d’un masque spécial en cas de toux et
l’avertissement du personnel de l’hôpital lors du triage à l’urgence, s’ils ont visité la Chine récemment. Enfin, les autorités conseillent à tout visiteur qui serait indisposé de remettre sa visite à plus tard et de rester à la maison si son état ne requiert pas des soins immédiats, afin de limiter le contact avec les microbes des patients et du personnel de l’hôpital, en pleine saison de grippe.

De plus, il y a aussi un comité des infections qui est spécifiquement rattaché aux pandé- mies.
