ments Frances regained consciousness and flung herself forward, taking her part in the resistance. There was a short struggle, and then she almost shouted, “ I km free! I am free! My old power has come back. I am all for God. Oh, how good He is— how good! May He bless you for helping me. Evil has no more dominion over me: I shall stand firmly now, thanks be to God.” She has stood; the deliverance was permanent; as she declared in the words of the poet—■ What though a, thousand hosts engage, A thousand worlds, my soul to shake, I have a shield shall quell their rage, And drive the alien armies back; Portrayed it bears a bleeding Lamb; I dare believe in Jesus’ Name. Some time ago Frances gave inp per mission to print this, for the help of souls and to the glory of the Deliverer. The occasions for the use of this prayer are frequent. In providential afflictions how suitable it is for tried believers, who find all helpers failing them! Students, in doctrinal diffi culties, may often obtain aid by lifting up this cry of “ Help, Lord,” to the Holy Spirit, the gre'at Teacher. Spiritual warriors in inward conflicts may send to the throne for reinforcements, and this will be a model for their requejt. Workers in heavenly labour may thus obtain grace in the time of need. Seek ing sinners, in doubts and alarms, may offer up the same weighty supplication; in fact, in all cases, times, and places, this will serve the turn of needy souls. “ Help, Lord,” will suit us living and dying, suffering or labouring, rejoicing or sorrowing. The next day Frances recovered herself, and appealed to me once more. “ We must positively put ah end to all this. Can not you repeat what you did for me before?” I saw that it would be the right course to pursue. We laid the whole matter before God in prayer that eve ning when all was quiet. With intense urgency I besought Him so to fill me with His Spirit that the powers of dark ness would be subject to His -Word through me, and trouble my friend no more. Frances continued, yielding her self unreservedly to God and pleading for forgiveness, acknowledging that she had brought her difficulty on herself through touching the forbidden thing in former years, and thus laying her self open to the assaults which were almost overthrowing her. When she had ended I again com manded the Enemy, in the Name of Jesus, to leave her in peace. I was con vinced that the Divine power would be victorious, but at first there was no ap parent effect. Frances was completely overcome, and lost consciousness. Alarm added force to my words; it was a tremendous battle, and Xthrew myself across her prostrate form, defying the Controls to touch her. I was perfectly aware of the presence of my antagon ists, but felt no fear. There was a sense of wavering, then of retreat'as I pushed with my arms, repeating the Holy Name persistently, and driving against the foe with all my might. After a few mo
