Fortunately the Bible holds the solution which we seek. Univers ally, people have the same prob lems. These difficulties exist with out regard to time or geographical boundaries. There is a great peril in coveting riches (Luke 2:12-15). Christ rightly points out, "A man's life consisteth not in the abund ance of the things which he pos sessed." Covetousness is defined as a selfish desire to have more than one a lready possesses. A Greek translation for this would
be, "every kind of greedy desire for more." Such wickedness can be seen throughout Scripture in the lives of those who continually disobeyed God's will. This would include people all the way from Cain in the Old Testament to Judas and Ananias and Sapphira in the New Testament. Some like Ba laam are mentioned in both. There are many verses wh ich warn against it (Col. 3:5; I Cor. 6:10; I Tim. 6:8-10). Jesus sp e c ific a lly speaks against this practice, too. Page 45
