DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF ESTATES AND FACILITIES (DEVELOPMENT)

Person Specification • A degree or equivalent in a relevant subject. • A relevant professional qualification. • Significant professional experience of estates management at a senior level including relevant experience in a large, complex organisation. • Experience of managing and controlling substantial budgets together with good understanding of financial management systems. • Significant experience of planning, reporting and presenting at senior management level. • Strategic planning and organisational skills with experience of delivering agreed strategic goals in line with organisational priorities. • Experience of managing teams of professional staff. • Experience and understanding of the challenges and opportunities for estates and facilities services within the higher education sector is desirable. • An ability to understand and empathise with key issues and challenges that may present themselves in higher education over the next ten years, and to analyse the implications and opportunities that these present for the University. • Experience and demonstrable success in the management of innovation and change and of securing the support of others in process. • A sound knowledge of financial management, including experience of forecasting, formulating and managing income and expenditure budgets in a commercial environment. • Commercially astute with experience in financial and budgetary management and planning, with an excellent track record in delivering ‘best value’. • An open, empathetic and consultative style of management, combining an ability to listen with the confidence and authority to reach decisions and determine a clear way forward. • Excellent influencing skills with an ability to persuade senior management of appropriate courses of action in strategic matters. • Organised and proactive with capability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and strong personal resilience, with high levels of drive and vision. • Excellent motivator and communicator with first class leadership, management and interpersonal skills, with strong staff management skills. Special requirements Able to undertake duties at different premises including any University campus as required. The postholder will need to access all areas of the University estate. Additional travel may be necessary from time to time to attend conferences and events and effectively represent the University in key professional networks. Some work outside normal office hours to effectively support University operations can be expected. There is also a requirement to attend out of hours emergencies and access to live construction sites, so the candidate will need to hold a Professionally Qualified Person CSCS card.
