Prime agricultural land protection is also a high concern for the candidate and that agricultural ruling and practices should be taken seriously and not being pushed aside in the name of advancement and rushed development. “Never forget that farmers feed the cities,” he said. “I know the solar park left a lot of people very upset and many still resent it being there. You know, you never mind when it’s not in your backyard. East Hawkes- bury is rural and agricultural oriented and we should think forward with that in mind.” During the campaign, some citizens and candidates pointed out the fact that Dandy wasn’t fluent in French. “I don’t hide behind the fact that my French isn’t very good,” he said. “I talked to Mayor Kirby before I ran and he said“it’s not an issue.” I was born and raised in Stardale and my father was fluent. I understand French very well, but it’s not the same as talking.” The last census data indi- cates that about 33% of East Hawkesbury’s citizens identify English as their mother tongue. Calling himself a candidate for the people, Allen Dandy wants to fight for the quality of life in East Hawkesbury and is willing to go the extra mile to be the voice of all the vil- lages and rural areas at the council table.

Allen G. Dandy knows a thing or two about his township, being a 4th genera- tion citizen and farmer. Eyeing the deputy mayor’s chair at the council, he cherishes the quality of life of East Hawkesbury but also wants to shake things up and go for- ward for a balanced future, economically and financially. “I’m very proud of my township, our taxes are within reason and we do have money in the bank,” said the County Road 12 candidate. We have an excellent mayor in Mr. Kirby but sometimes, just like a hoc- key team, you have to change players to improve. (…) The actual deputy mayor, Mr. Sauvé, was never elected, always unop- posed. Call it the right place at the right time. I believe that if people work together, they can accomplish a lot, like the 2011 Prescott-Russell plowing match. Just like farming, if you run a business (township) you might as well run it as your own and make it profitable for everybody.” Keeping it simple, Allen Dandy wants to maintain a low tax rate “by ensuring responsible spending and government transparency in the awarding of contracts.”

Au cours des sept dernières années, on est allé chercher 5,4 millions $ en octrois du provincial et du fédéral. On a remplacé et réparé des ponts, on a acheté un camion de pompiers et on a fait une extension sur les égouts de Chute-à-Blondeau. C’est sûr qu’on n’a pas les infrastructures d’une ville, mais notre centre communautaire est rem- pli à Chute-à-Blondeau. Il y a une patinoire couverte à Saint-Eugène et l’ancienne école grouille d’activités à Sainte-Anne- de-Prescott. (…) La municipalité roule bien, il n’y a rien de mal alors pourquoi changer?» En plus d’appuyer le plan d’asphaltage des différents chemins du canton, dont plusieurs sont encore en gravier, Richard Sauvé voit d’un bon œil la phase deux de l’aire de jeux d’eau de Saint-Eugène, pour laquelle le canton a fait une demande de subvention. Il désire également continuer à faire pression pour amener la distribu- tion de gaz naturel à Hawkesbury Est et tout faire pour maintenir un taux de taxes abordable. Rappelons qu’avant d’être élu maire adjoint en 2003, Richard Sauvé a oc- cupé le poste de conseiller de 1991 à 2000. «Comme dans les mandats précédents, je veux servir les citoyens de Hawkesbury Est du mieux que je le peux, a-t-il conclu. Je crois que l’on a fait de l’excellent travail et il faut continuer de cette manière.»

SAINT-EUGÈNE | Avec 20 ans d’expé- rience en politique municipale à la table du conseil du canton de Hawkesbury Est, le maire adjoint sortant Richard Sauvé fait une première campagne depuis les années 1990. «En 2003, j’ai pris la place de Ron Conway et je suis rentré par acclamation à chaque élection depuis, a indiqué le candidat de Saint-Eugène. C’est la première fois depuis plus de 10 ans que j’ai de l’opposition et je dois dire que j’ai eu du plaisir à faire du porte-à-porte et à rencontrer les gens. J’ai un calepin avec deux pages de commen- taires et les gens sont heureux de la ma- nière dont la municipalité est gérée. Il y a aussi des citoyens qui m’ont indiqué des problèmes sur un pont ou une calverette. Mais, dans l’ensemble, les citoyens sont satisfaits du travail.» Une des rares municipalités pouvant se vanter de ne pas avoir de dettes, Hawkes- bury Est a les reins solides et la bonne entente est chose commune au conseil municipal. «Je vous dirais, pourquoi changer quelque chose quand ça va bien?, a-t-il dit.
