WHICH OF THESE SHOPPING LOCATIONS DO YOU VISIT ONE OR MORE TIMES A MONTH (PRIOR TO COVID-19)?

The survey also asked respondents about which shopping locations, public amenities, and religious institutions they visited more than once a month. These questions helped the Planning Team understand the neighborhood places that are important or heavily utilized, and where individuals go to fulfill their daily errands and tasks. The survey included an open-ended response section for residents to provide more nuanced and detailed responses. From these responses, multiple themes emerged, including: • Worry about increasing traffic levels and speeding in the neighborhood, and associated safety concerns. • A desire to clean up the trash and rundown properties in the neighborhood.

• Concern about displacement,

gentrification, and the style of the newer housing. New housing without porches and yards do not fit into the character of the neighborhood which set them apart from the traditional housing styles in the Northeast -- with elements such as front porches and yards. • A desire for a community gathering space which includes programming for youth, adults, and seniors. • A desire to reimagine the DuBois School Campus as a community centerpiece. • A desire for healthier food options, a local grocery store, and the strengthening of food security for the community. • The need to create a safer built environment with more sidewalks, crosswalks, traffic calming improvements, better lighting, and more street trees.
