PRE-DEPARTURE, ON-SITE AND RE- ENTRY SERVICES Academic Advising and Support Services Students will have access to on-site academic advisors who are available to assist with a variety of academic related issues and provide academic guidance throughout the study abroad program. In addition to academic advising, learning support centers, writing centers and academic coaching are available in a variety of ways across our campus network. Career Services Career Services works with students to identify and explore opportunities and activities that will help them reach their future career or graduate school goals. Counseling Services Webster University is committed to supporting the emotional and psychological well-being of its community. Personal counseling services are available to all students in a safe and confidential environment. Student Involvement Opportunities The best way to enhance your study abroad experience and integrate into the local campus community is to participate in student activities—and there is no shortage of ways to get involved at Webster. Study abroad students have held office in Student Government Associations, traveled to Model United Conferences, played on football (soccer) and volleyball teams, joined academically-focused clubs and attended local and American holiday celebrations. RE-ENTRY SERVICES Resources and Engagement Students are encouraged to stay engaged after returning home. Study abroad returnee events are organized to give students the opportunity to share and process their experiences. The Office of Study Abroad is always available to provide support and resources for students dealing with reverse culture shock. Study abroad alums are encouraged to stay connected with the Office of Study Abroad by sharing their experience through social media, volunteering at on- campus study abroad events, and/or serving as a peer mentor for other students planning to study abroad.

PRE-DEPARTURE SERVICES Application Assistance and Advising

The Office of Study Abroad is available to guide students through the entire pre-departure phase of study abroad. From planning to applying, a study abroad advisor will answer any questions that might come up. WINS students will be guided through the administrative process of the application. Once a student has started an application, our staff is frequently in touch throughout the process and students are encouraged to reach out with questions that may arise at any time. Acceptance Students are notified of acceptance via email after the application deadline. After being accepted, students attend an acceptance meeting specific to their study abroad destination. During the meeting, students learn what to expect in the next steps: academics and course registration, housing, flights, what to expect upon arrival and, if applicable, visa procedures. WINS students will receive a link to register for a Virtual Acceptance Meeting within the initial acceptance email. In addition to what’s mentioned above, the Virtual Acceptance Meeting is also the first opportunity to connect with students from other WINS institutions who will be participating in the same program. Orientation All Webster students attend a pre-departure orientation before they leave. The orientation covers important practical information such as health and safety, money, phones, and cultural adjustment. WINS students will have the opportunity to attend a virtual ‘Know Before You Go’ session. This session is not a substitute for any study abroad orientations that are required by a students home institution. Students receive an orientation packet that includes a study abroad t-shirt and travel adaptor. This packet will be mailed to WINS students. Both the pre-departure orientation and ‘Know Before You Go’ sessions are opportunities to ask any last minute questions, talk with recent study abroad alums and connect with other students studying on the same program. ON-SITE SERVICES Each of our international campuses hold an on-site orientation and offer ongoing support for study abroad students.

FINANCIAL AID You can afford to study abroad!

Webster students retain their federal, state and Webster University funding (with the exception of work-study funds) while studying abroad through a Webster program. Institutional and state aid is available for the fall and spring semesters only; summer students may be eligible for federal aid. The Office of Study Abroad advises all students to meet with a financial aid counselor as soon as a decision to study abroad has been made. WINS students are encouraged to check with the study abroad office and financial aid office at their home institution regarding available scholarship opportunities and to determine the type of aid that can be used for study abroad. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list and is meant to provide a starting point for further research.

Studying abroad is an investment in your future, and like any type of investment, it requires careful planning, consideration and commitment. From flight scholarships to federal financial aid and creative fundraising, funding is available to make your study abroad dreams a reality. FINANCIAL AID Webster World Traveler Program Full-time undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at Webster University may qualify for airfare assistance through the Webster World Traveler Program when studying abroad on a Webster program. The award covers up to $1,000 for students attending year-long, semester or term programs and up to $500 for shorter programs. All students must be in good academic, social and financial standing with the university to qualify. Additional eligibility requirements include: • Undergraduate students must have earned 15 credit hours at Webster. • Graduate students must have earned 9 credit hours at Webster. The WINS Award covers up to $1,000 (semester programs) and $500 (summer programs) towards round-trip airfare for eligible, degree-seeking students at a partner institution. Additional eligibility requirements include: • Student must take at least 6 credits in the summer. • Students must be in good academic, social and financial standing with their home institution. • Be accepted into a Webster University study abroad program. • For full eligibility requirements and award conditions, please visit our website. Scholarships and Financial Aid Awards may be limited due to availability of funds, so apply early. Program Surveys

Following program completion, students are administered a survey to collect feedback on study abroad. This information is used to guide programming and measure the quality of program experiences. Transcripts WINS Students: Official transcripts are issued by Webster University within 4-6 weeks of the program end date for all Webster international campus programs. Transcripts from our international partners and exchanges can take several months to receive. Transcripts will be sent to the address indicated on the Study Abroad Advisor Authorization Form, which is a requirement in the initial application. Webster will not release transcripts for students who have an outstanding account balance.

Zermatt Ski Trip Every January, the Student Affairs team organizes a Zermatt ski weekend at a discounted rate for students. Students have the opportunity to partake in various activities including skiing, snowboarding and ice skating. Even for non-skiers, the views in Zermatt alone are worth making the trip! International Humanitarian & Security Conference Since 1995, Webster Geneva’s Department of International Relations has organized the International Humanitarian & Security Conference in close cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). This conference brings together practitioners and scholars, members of the Geneva-based international community and other officials and representatives of civil society to address today and tomorrow’s challenge. Student volunteers, often affiliated with the Webster Humanitarian Association, a student-led NGO, work closely with the IR department in the preparation and execution of the conference. Webster’s Got Talent and Football Tournament In February each year, students have the opportunity to showcase their talents to the entire Webster Geneva community. It’s a fun event for all, but the top two winners move on to compete in the Webster’s Got Talent finale which rotates between our Geneva, Leiden and Vienna campuses each April. The European Football Tournament is held during the same weekend with teams from each campus competing for the coveted European trophy. Creativity and Innovation Days Hosted in April by the Webster Center for Creativity and Innovation, Creativity Days aims to foster the dialogue to advance the state of the art in creativity and innovation. Creativity Week offers a network of events that are open to the public, including idea incubators, workshops, panel discussions and keynote speakers. Academic and Social Clubs Students are encouraged to connect with others through academic clubs linked to various fields of study, in Business & Marketing, Computer & Cybersecurity, International Relations, Psychology or explore a passion in student-run clubs like Football, Art, Music, Fitness, Media, Writing, and more. As Switzerland’s most cosmopolitan city, Geneva’s spirit of cooperation made it the ideal site for Webster’s first international campus in 1978. Home to the European headquarters for the United Nations and numerous international organizations, Geneva has a long history of diversity and tolerance. Its humanitarian tradition began with the creation of the Red Cross and continues today as home of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Citizens from over 175 countries reside in Geneva and as a city of only about 530,000, Geneva is frequently referred to as the world’s smallest truly global city. The Geneva campus is the most culturally diverse in Webster University’s international network and welcomes students from nearly 90 nationalities each year. Webster Geneva is a park-style campus environment located in Bellevue, Geneva, within sight of Lake Geneva and the Alps. Just eight minutes from the city’s central station by train (every 15 minutes), the campus is only a five-minute walk from the Bellevue lake front. On campus, students will find well-equipped classrooms, a library, computer labs, recording and photographic studio, art room, cafeteria, the Student Hub and a student lounge which includes a game room and fitness center. FAST FACTS ABOUT GENEVA • The World Wide Web was invented in Geneva at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. It operates the largest particle physics laboratory in the world. • Switzerland is home to the world’s densest network of hiking trails, boasting 65,000 km of trails, barely shy of the 71,000 km of roads. • Geneva is conveniently located between the Jura Mountains and the Alps. • At 140 meters, the Jet d’Eau is one of the tallest water fountains in the world and is one of Geneva’s most iconic landmarks.

HOUSING IN GENEVA All study abroad students are required to live in campus-provided housing and will be assigned to either Les Berges du Rhône or Les Savoises, in central Geneva. All residence halls house students from around the world and provide a comfortable living and learning environment. Les Berges du Rhône and Les Savoises are primely located within the city. The diverse and lively neighborhood makes it easy for students to discover and enjoy all that an international city like Geneva has to offer while being only 25 minutes from campus by tram and train. “Webster Geneva gave me what was missing at my large university campus. I found the space to take initiative by contributing to organizations and had access to resources at the United Nations as a place for study and networking, especially at the conferences and events. Attend a Viennese Traditional Ball Experience an integral part of Viennese and Austrian culture by waltzing the night away at a Viennese Ball during Ball Season during the Spring semester. Every January, the Student Resource Center partially sponsors ball tickets to promote this cultural experience to students. Webster’s Got Talent and Football Tournament In February each year, students have the opportunity to showcase their talents to the entire WVPU community. It’s a fun event for all, but the top two winners move on to compete in the Webster’s Got Talent finale which rotates between our Geneva, Leiden and Vienna campuses each April. The European Football Tournament is held during the same weekend with teams from each campus competing for the coveted European trophy. Viennese Hiking and Heurigen: A traditional Austrian food experience Another of Vienna’s intangible cultural heritages, Heurigen, or wine taverns, culture can be found in taverns on the edge of the city that offer current wine from their own vineyards and buffet tables of homemade dishes. The relaxed, cozy atmosphere of Heurigen makes for the perfect place to leisurely spend a few hours in summer and early autumn. WebMU: WVPU Model United Nations Webmun.org is an innovative and interactive Model United Nations conference organized each October by students at Webster Vienna Private University. With a slogan of ‘Revolutionizing Model UNs,’ WebMUN: WVPU Model United Nations invented the interconnectivity system in 2014 and more recently the Diplomatic Corps. Committee. FAST FACTS ABOUT VIENNA • Vienna has been selected as the No. 1 city in the Mercer’s Annual Quality of Living Ranking for 11 years in a row (2012-2023). • Viennese coffee house culture has been inscribed on the UNESCO “Intangible Cultural Heritage” list since 2011. Often described as the city’s living room, coffee houses are a place “where time and space are consumed, but only the coffee is found on the bill.” • With numerous parks and gardens, over half of Vienna is green space making it one of the greenest cities in the world. The nearby Viennese Woods, a branch of the foothills of the Alps, offers a network of walking and hiking paths, nature reserves and vineyards easily reachable by Vienna’s public transport system.

HOUSING IN VIENNA Study abroad students are housed off campus at District Living, in a modern, compact studio with an integrated kitchen and on-site laundry facilities. The residence hall offers a wide range of shared working and leisure spaces and amenities. From the secret garden, lounge cafe, gym and yoga room to the 33 rd floor sky lounge with its amazing views of Donau Island. District Living is situated in the most modern part of the city and right next to the Austrian United Nations headquarters, it is just a 15-minute journey to campus with fantastic public transport connections that will ensure you get to see all the best that Vienna has to offer in record time.

Often named one of the world’s top cities for quality of life, it is hard to find a more livable city than Vienna. Vienna is a historic city at the intersection of “old” and “new.” Here you will find a thriving center of international commerce, where the banking and business districts share the streets with the city’s famous centuries- old opera houses, cafés, magnificent palaces and the winding Danube River. Located in Central Europe, students will be exposed to multicultural living and learning at its best. Established in 1981, Webster Vienna Private University (WVPU) is located in the beautiful Palais Wenkheim, conveniently located in Vienna’s second district, just a few steps away from the city center. Built in 1826, the neoclassical building features tremendous architectural detailing, both interior and exterior. The building was completely renovated and transformed into a modern site for academic and operational excellence in 2014. The Vienna campus offers modern and interactive classrooms, computer labs, the Library and Learning Center, and plenty of places throughout the building for students to meet, study and relax. In the Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience and Behavior Lab (CanBeLab), students have the opportunity to record brain activities, muscle activity, skin conductance and to code and analyze facial expressions for scientific research.

Visit to The Hague Webster Leiden takes students to the Hague for co-curricular course activities like visiting the Atlantik Wall Museum, learning about the work being done a the Entrepreneurial Incubator, or experiencing the Humanity Hub, the International Criminal Court and Peace Palace. King’s Day Celebration April 27 is King’s Day (Koningsdag), a national holiday in the Netherlands that celebrates the birth of King Willem-Alexander. Celebrations include parties, the display of local customs and traditional clothing, live music and dancing and various flea markets. Don’t forget to wear orange! Stadsfestival De Lakenfeesten This festival has a long history, which can be traced back to the days when Leiden had a flourishing textile industry. Now over the last weekend of June, the city turns into a festival full of performances, events and fun. The Dragon Boat races at the Lakenfeest are the largest inner-city races and one of the most popular in the Netherlands. If you’re studying abroad in the summer, be sure to ask about joining Webster Leiden’s Dragon Boat team! 3 October Festival The 3 October Festival (Leiden Ontzet) celebrates the liberation of Leiden on October 3, 1574, and was declared an official city holiday in 1886. The day is marked by parades, fairs and fireworks.

HOUSING IN LEIDEN Students at Webster Leiden live in the Living and Learning Center (LLC) which is located just across the street from the main campus building, approximately two minutes by foot. Built in 1929, the LLC exhibits gorgeous “Delft-style” architecture right in the heart of the old city center. The building consists of 50 single and double occupancy apartments, each with a kitchenette and private bath. The LLC also provides plenty of space for students to relax including a private courtyard and student lounge. Student life is very active, with a range of programs that include visits with experts in the community, movie nights that reflect a wide range of interests and Web talks featuring some of Leiden's most talented faculty members. Many informal activities take place in the LLC. Students can participate in the award-winning Model United Nations Club and choose from a range of academically focused events that include Psychology, International Relations, Media and the Arts, the Environment, Sports, Entrepreneurship and more. Special multi-campus events include the Webster Soccer Tournament, Webster's Got Talent and the International Student Government Summit which rotate location each year. Many students also explore the country and visit other European destinations. One-day 3 Island Optional Cruise Students set sail for a full day of island hopping. The one-day 3 island cruise makes stops in the Greek islands of Aegina, Poros and Hydra (usually offered in the summer and during Fall I and Spring II.) Explore Greek Archaeological Sites While in Athens, students will have the opportunity to visit archaeological sites and museums such as the Acropolis, Acropolis Museum, Ancient Agora, Roman Agora, the first modern Olympic stadium and the National Archaeological Museum. Tour of Ancient Olympia Each semester, an excursion to visit the multiple archaeological sites of Ancient Olympia. Students visit the archaeological site in Olympia and learn about the origins of the Ancient Olympic Games, visit the theatre of Epidaurus to learn about ancient Greek drama and the role of theatre in Ancient Greece and visit Mycena, one of the great cities of the Mycenaean civilization that played a vital role in classical Greek culture. Semester Excursions Each semester excursions and field trips are planned around different regions of Greece. Past trips have included Delphi, Nafplio, Elefsina, Epidavros, Meteora, Sparta-Mystras, and Monemvasia. Students will receive a calendar of events in the orientation meeting that will highlight the excursions that are planned for that semester. Detailed Orientation Orientation begins when students arrive to Athens. They are picked up at the airport and brought to the university apartments that are adjacent to the university facilities. After they get situated in the apartments, they are treated to a welcome dinner in the historic Plaka area. The official orientation meeting takes place on their second day and covers information for living in Athens. Multiple walking and transportation tours take place that help students acclimate to the area quickly. Students have found that it’s an easy city to navigate and safe to walk around. Greece is the birthplace of democracy, political science, Western philosophy and literature, and the Olympic games and Athens is the center of it all, making it an ideal study abroad destination. With its extraordinary artistic, intellectual and cultural heritage, Athens is richly endowed with resources for formal study and experiential learning. Webster Athens is in an ideal location, in the historical neighborhood known as Plaka, at the foothills of the Acropolis. Plaka is also known as the “Neighborhood of the Gods” because of its location to the Acropolis and its many archaeological sites including the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Arch of Hadrian. Athens is a modern city with a plethora of activity; cultural events including concerts, gallery exhibits, dance and theatre are an integral part of everyday life. The Webster Athens campus was established in 2014 and is dedicated to creating a campus culture that embraces and celebrates diversity and inclusion and promotes international understanding and appreciation. With a low student-to-faculty ratio, faculty get to know students on a first-name basis and classes are highly interactive with a strong emphasis on collaboration. Housed within two beautiful and historic buildings, the campus features classrooms, a computer lab, library, administrative offices and a cultural center. The classroom building has been fully renovated and offers a break room and rooftop access during business hours which provides a space to relax and enjoy a wonderful view overlooking the historic acropolis. HOUSING IN ATHENS Students have an opportunity to be independent by living in shared furnished apartments in the Plaka area within a 2–5 minute walk to campus. Students live in shared apartments with multiple roommates. Typically, students live in double rooms with a roommate; however, there is the option of a single room for an additional charge, if there is availability. Student housing is conveniently located near Monastiraki Square and Syntagma Square, which gives students access to transportation hubs, restaurants, shopping bazaars and grocery stores.

Athletic Events on Campus Experience an integral part of American university culture by attending sporting events at Webster. The games are a great way to have fun with friends and show school spirit! Webster is part of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and has sports teams, including soccer, volleyball, softball, track, cross country, basketball, tennis, golf and baseball. BEIJING, CHINA Beijing Language and Culture University Webster’s semester in China program is aimed at students with an interest in Chinese language and culture. The program is offered in the fall semester and spring semester and courses are focused on Chinese language. All courses use Beijing as a living classroom and weave excursions, independent projects, lectures and group work together into a comprehensive experiential learning environment. Kansai University is located in Osaka: Japan’s second largest city. The city boasts modern life and old-world sites, and the Kansai region is also home to such historical cities as Kyoto, which is a short train ride away. The Kansai Region is known for its history and tradition in harmony. The program is open to students with various levels of Japanese proficiency and students studying at Kansai University will live in the International Dormitory. OSAKA, JAPAN Kansai University TOKYO, JAPAN J.F. Oberlin University Oberlin is located in Tokyo, a brilliant, modern city with fine fashion and cuisine that is also home to some of the world’s tallest buildings and incredible historical sites, such as the Imperial Palace. BRUSSELS, BELGIUM Université Libre de Bruxelles For students interested in increasing their proficiency of French, Université Libre de Bruxelles offers a full year or spring semester exchange program. It is open to undergraduate students who have advanced proficiency in French. Classes are conducted in French. Rightly nicknamed “the Crossroads of Europe,” Brussels is a truly cosmopolitan city of more than one million people. Brussels is a center for European culture with nearly 90 museums, parks and restaurants, boasting cuisine from nearly every country imaginable.

OAXACA, MEXICO Arcos Learning Abroad Students can enroll in Spanish

Language and content courses at two different universities in Oaxaca, the Universidad Autónoma Benito Juárez de Oaxaca (UABJO) or the Universidad Mesoamericana, through a partnership with Arcos that was formed in 2023. After an initial placement exam, students are able to choose courses that match their proficiency level. Students who study on this program will live in a homestay which further broadens students’ cutlural and linguistic experience in Mexico.
