MAJORS Accounting Finance HOMETOWN Weston, Wis. ORGANIZATION Intercity State Bank Schofield, Wis. TITLE Commercial Credit Analyst Intern
What I did: My main responsibility was to determine if a customer’s current income levels supported them taking on the debt they requested from Intercity. I did this by breaking down both the businesses and owner’s previous tax returns, along with any interim profit and loss statements they may have provided to us to showcase their income year to date. I also broke down any current debt the business or owner may have to find annually how much they pay on their loans. Then after breaking everything down, I found what is called the Global Debt Service Coverage Ratio, which is Net Cash Flow/Debt Service. Once complete, based on the requested loan amount, I sent it to our business banker or board of directors for final approval. What I liked: What I liked most about this internship is that it didn’t feel like I was an intern. Everyone that I worked with treated me like I was a full-time worker, training me as if I was going to be working here for years to come. Then after showing I understood what I was doing and started to grasp what made a customer look good to the business banker, he asked me to start giving my own opinion on if a loan should be approved or not. Obviously, I didn’t get the final say but it was great to see that the work I was performing wasn’t going unnoticed and I was starting to gain that much trust with everyone. Future Dream Job: My dream job is to own and operate my own local accounting firm with one of my best friends. If I choose not to pursue this dream, I know that my next dream job will have a great work-life balance so I can spend time with my family and friends.
