MAJORS Business Administration Marketing HOMETOWN Slinger, Wis. ORGANIZATION UWSP University Centers Stevens Point, Wis. TITLE DUC Building Manager Student Manager

What I did: My main duties as a student manager are to complete scheduling and payroll, manage the needs of my staff, interview and make hiring decisions with new employees, promote the DUC Building Manager position among students, and most importantly plan and conduct the yearly training of new and current employees. This position comes with a lot of responsibility. I have to be reachable to my staff during all hours of DUC building operation, and I’m one of the first calls if there is an emergency situation. I work under the guidance of my supervisor Susan LeBow, assistant director of the University Centers. What I liked: In this position, I have a lot of creative freedom to do my job the way that I want to. I get to choose the hours I work, what to work on, and ultimately make my own guiding decisions of what I should be doing on a day to day basis. I really enjoy having this flexibility because everyday gets to be different than the last. I’ve also found that being in a management position is something I enjoy because I like being the go-to if my staff has questions, if there’s anything I can help them with, and overall contributing to employee satisfaction and their success in the position. Future Dream Job: My dream job incorporates many of the elements that I have in my internship now. In the future I would like to eventually own and operate my own business. Everything that I’m learning about management in this position is so important to me because I want to carry it on when I have my own business and am working for myself. Currently the vision I have for my business is to convert a historical home on the east coast into a bed and breakfast with a gift shop. Anywhere I end up, I want to be engaged in the community and aid other local businesses in their success.
