Underground C-R water mapping study planned

In Clarence-Rockland, Di Iorio observed, groundwater quality for drinking water use “is a persistent issue” and that maps of the underground water systems would be an aid for future development. The Clarence-Rockland groundwater mapping study would serve as a model for
similar mapping studies in future for other parts of the UCPR and the technology could be applied to other parts of the province or country. The UCPR and SNC are partnering with the University of Ottawa and the Ontario Geological Survey (OGS) on the $300,000 project with a mix of both cash and in-kind support through staffing for field work sample collections and tracking of under- ground streams and also for laboratory analysis of water samples.

As the spring thaw continues landowners with property located along the South Na- tion River and its tributaries are urged to keep a close watch for any ice jams or other situations that might cause temporary flooding problems. Motorists driving through some parts of Prescott-Russell are also advised to keep a watch along some of the back roads located near the South Nation River which may be prone to temporary flooding.
