A R G Preventing false fire alarm call outs
Always use overhead exhaust fans, be cautious of steam
Use a small amount of
NEVER leave cooking unattended
Open windows if possible, to allow greater airflow
cooking spray, avoid using oil
DO NOT smoke anywhere inside University property
Be cautious of steam that might be created from hot showers
Ensure bathroom exhaust fans are always on when showering
DO NOT tamper with or hang items on fire sprinklers/ heads
Tasmanian law dictates that you must be atleast three metres from a residential entrance/exit to smoke.
DO NOT use electrical appliances that are not tagged in your room Test and Tag is the name given to the process of checking the safety of portable electrical appliances.
If you use aerosol deodorant or hairspray, use it sparingly and in small amounts
Monitor your toast, many false call-outs are due to burnt toast
DO NOT use candles or open flames in your room
A R G What to do if there is a fire
Remove yourself and others from immediate danger
Alert others by activating the fire alarm. Call 000 and Safety and Security 6226 7600
Confine the emergency by closing the doors and windows, do not lock them
Evacuate immediately to the designated assembly point. Do not return until authorsied to do so
Extinguish only if the fire is small, you have proper equipment and training, and it is safe to do so
