André Lalonde wants to make some real positive difference on Clarence-Rockland council
CLARENCE CREEK | André Lalonde wants to provide a calming in$uence on council if he wins the ballot for the Ward 5 seat in next month’s municipal election. “I want to have a positive impact on my community,” he said, during a phone inter- view. “I have the future development of the town at heart.” The 38-year-old resident of Clarence Creek is making his "rst entry into local po- litics. It is, though, an area of activity which has interested him for a long time. “I’ve always been fascinated with politics, not just municipal, but also provincial and federal,” he said. “I’ve always been intrigued because of what I might be able to bring to it.” In 2010 he had been thinking about ma- king his initial foray into the civic election race then but other projects and priorities pushed that to the side. While he’s never been a politician in the usual sense of the word, Lalonde has some experience in poli- tical matters of a sort, such as his work with the Eastern Ontario Snowmobile Club as its president. “There were always political-type deci- sions that were needed,” he said. “With the snowmobile club, I was responsible for a group of 70 volunteers and 1200 members. So I’mnot unfamiliar with political business.” With his experience with the snowmobile CUMBERLAND | Little league players in the Cumberland Ward will have a more professional ball diamond to play on next season. Cumberland Ward Coun. Stephen Blais has secured funding help for the Orléans Little League Baseball Club for improve- ments to the Wilfred Murray baseball dia- mond. “By improving this wonderful baseball diamond, Wilfred Murray will lead to a bet- ter and more professional playing area for our athletes,” stated Blais. “Cumberland Ward is growing at such a rapid pace that we need to ensure investments keep pace for our local sports clubs.” The club will receive a $25,000 grant from the City of Ottawa’s Rural Community Buil-

I’m talking about public transit, among other things, which, to my mind, is an essential and vital element for the future develop- ment of a city like Clarence-Rockland.”
Lalonde wants to do is help make a more positive and calmatmosphere at the council table. For the past couple of years the main public impression of council a#airs has been the negative but Lalonde noted that is not the complete picture. “There have been lots of good things done (by council),” he said, “and there have been not-so-good things. One thing is cer- tain, we have to stop the constant bickering. We have to be able to get things done. We need a uni"ed vision so that we can plan

club, as a member of the Clarence-Rockland Public Transit Committee, and his work at the University of Ottawa, Lalonde feels he is very familiar with having to deal with people’s needs. Also, in his own village, he was one of the key people involved in the creation of Parc Jules Saumure with the support of residents and the Let Them Be Kids non-pro"t organization. “That was a big project for the communi- ty,” he said. “It just proved that when people work together, we can achieve wonderful things.” If he wins the Oct. 27 election, one thing
