Katie Montini - “Museum and School Interactions” (session 6) This project explores the ways in which museums and school systems interact with each other through several interviews. Additionally, it explores the role that museums take on in the field of education and the importance of museums as educational facilities. As museum and school interactions become more popular there are a much wider variety of programs becoming available to supplement classroom instruction, especially for elementary science. Domonique Mucker - Self Defense Scenario (Special Session 9:00-12) Maho Muramatsu (session 16) - see Linder Makenzie Murphree - “Five Things I Learned from Dr. Bruce Perry and Oprah” (poster session) In April of 2021, Dr. Bruce Perry and Oprah released a book together titled What Happened to You? , a powerful piece that highlighted the conversations between the two authors on trauma, resilience, and healing. This book was assigned to me in class and it was something that I not only personally connected with but could easily see the multiple benefits that came with reading the book. First, the authors focus on making this book a reading experience that will help the audience understand their feelings and where those feelings may have stemmed from as well as helping them understand their reactions to these feelings. As an aspiring marriage and family therapist and someone who is going into the field of mental health, this book provides many tools that I want to begin to dissect and determine how I can take this knowledge and use it in my own counseling sessions. Tiffany Nash - “Depression and Dementia” (session 7) Research supports the use of non-pharmacological approaches for patients with dementia and depression to help with behavioral symptoms. Methods that are being researched are: aromatherapy, music therapy, and robotic animals. The literature has supported that these methods decrease some of the negative behaviors associated with depression in this type of patient population. The purpose of this capstone project is to educate health care workers who closely monitor dementia patients on non-pharmacological approaches to help decrease or prevent depressive symptoms. An educational pamphlet was developed to showcase the methods listed above for use by staff. Debbie Olson - “Toni Morrison, Racism, and The Bluest Eye” (session 22) Sigma Tau Delta is the English Honor Society. The International Sigma Tau Delta convention is being held in Denver Colorado in March 2023 (March 29-April 1). The convention will spotlight Nobel Prize winning, African American author Toni Morrison. The common reader for the convention is Morrison’s first novel, The Bluest Eye, published in 1970, a product of both the CounterCulture and Civil Rights movement. This is Morrison's first novel, but rarely gets the attention it deserves. Olson will argue that The Bluest Eye is Morrison's best novel and her most insightful comment on race and class in the United States. Divya Patel - “Malaria” (session 1) In just the 20th century, between 150 million to 300 million people died due to Malaria. While the disease has been eradicated from several countries, such as the USA, it is still prevalent in
