demodex mite population. Found in SynErgy A+ , this complex reduces the number of histamines, interleukin-8 and other factors that lead to redness. Studies also showed a 12% reduction redness due to neovascularization or new blood vessel development, in rosacea patients.

Bacteria, another type of pathogen, found on all skin and relatively harmless. However, should a cut or wound occur, this bacteria seeps in resulting in inflammation and infection. Rosacea skin experiences an increase in bacteria due to the influx of demodex mites and the staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria.

Totarol

HOW NEGATIVE PATHOGENS IMPACT ROSACEA

An extract derived from the tree sap of the Totara Tree delivers anti-bacterial properties to skin. It limits bacteria due to its rare phytochemicals that make it resistant to certain bacteria including staphylococcus aureus. Used in Relieve & Restore Serum , it helps reduce bacteria and inflammation, healing papules and pustules commonly seen in stage 2 rosacea.

The increase in these pathogens triggers an inflammatory response. Flare-ups that include erythema (redness) and heat may be seen on skin. Demodex mites increase the number of bacteria on the surface and potentially triggering red papules and bumps to form. With the increased amount of staphylococcus epidermidis, studies show rosacea moving into a more severe stage that included papules and pustules, along with increased inflammation – commonly known as stage 2 and associated with acne rosacea.

Salicylic Acid

A well-known ingredient when fighting acne, this ingredient provides high levels of anti-inflammatory support. Derived from many natural sources including birch bark, willow bark and wintergreen extracts. Salicylic also acts as a keratolytic, increasing exfoliation and reducing cellular buildup. Found in multiple formulations throughout Rosacea Rescue including the Cucumber Mandelic Cleanse , Retexturing Gel and Purifying Beta Remedy. When treating rosacea skin, it is important to take into consideration all aspects of the Rosacea Rescue philosophy and not overlook reducing negative pathogens. A simple four-product regimen can make a big difference in the slowing or reversing the severity of rosacea and improving the overall health of skin.

INGREDIENTS TO REDUCE PATHOGENS

As previously mentioned, finding the right balance results in a healthy microbiome. Some excellent ingredients can contribute to this balance and reduce the affects the pathogens have on rosacea skin. Due to skin’s increased vulnerability and sensitivity it is important to find ingredients that will not over-process and address multiple areas in our Rosacea Rescue philosophy.
