2021 Annual Report (Callanwolde Fine Arts Center)

THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS:

2021 Callanwolde Volunteer of the Year Dave Gutman

When Dave moved to Atlanta from Austin Texas in 2018, he started taking pottery classes at Callanwolde and volunteered in the Callanwolde gardens. Because he was so knowledgeable about plants, Dave was asked to take over the Callanwolde greenhouse and became the manager, a position he still holds today. In exchange for his volunteer work as greenhouse manager, Dave works on his pottery at Callanwolde every week. “My pottery helps me express my creativity, love for nature and the desire to push the limits of convention and color. Each piece is an individual statement. Every project offers me a challenge to create unique art demonstrating appreciation of color, texture and function.” Dave was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He grew up surrounded by succulent plants and developed an appreciation for plant and animal life indigenous to the area. He and his wife explored Southern Africa for almost a year, living in a tent and photographing the wildlife and natural beauty. In 2000, Dave and his wife moved to Austin, TX, where he first started pottery. He enjoys producing unique decorative and functional art including planters, vases, serving ware, urns and funky art for home and garden. In 2018, Dave and his wife moved to Atlanta to be closer to the grandsons. Callanwolde Fine Arts Center is continually grateful for Dave and every one of his contributions.
