This is an introductory guide to X (Twitter), covering how to set up an account and get to grips with the basics of using the platform effectively.

What is X?

X (formally Twitter) is an online social networking, microblogging, and news platform. It allows registered users to connect with each other and share posts of up to 280 characters, along with images and video clips. How to create an X account

3. Click the ‘Create account’ button on the welcome.

1. Type ‘X.com’ into your search engine (Google, Safari, Edge etc).

4. Provide your name, phone number (or email address), and date of birth.

5. Select your marketing and connections preferences.

10. Once you have submitted your strong password, you have completed setting up your account. You can continue to personalise your account by changing your profile picture, username, and profile header. 8. Enter the verification code into the text box. The code will be sent to the email address or phone number provided in step 4.

9. Enter a strong password into the text box.

It is important to choose a strong password for all social media platforms. You can ensure your password is strong by ensuring it has the following attributes: • UPPERCASE and lowercase letters • Numbers • Symbols (. , ! ? @) • Includes no personal information (name, date of birth) • Is different to your other passwords • Longer than 8 characters

2. To add a photo, GIF, polls emoji, schedule or location to your post, select the relevant icon in the bottom left. • The 1st icon is to upload a picture. You will need to upload an image that is already saved to your computer or phone. • The 2nd icon is the GIF icon. GIFs are animated images which can be shared on your twitter profile. You can search for GIFs using the online library, but these will not be specific to your organisation. • The 3rd icon is the poll icon. Polls can be used to ask questions to your followers. • The 4th icon is the emoji icon. Emojis are small digital images or icons which are used to express and idea or emotion. • The 5th icon can be used to schedule your posts for a certain time or day. • The 6th icon can be used to share your location which can help direct people to where your activities take place. When sharing your location be mindful of who can see your tagged locations when you post. Never include your home address or information on young people (such as school name) in your location.

4. On their page, click the ‘Follow’ button. Their posts will now show up on your homepage.

1. To find other accounts, click the magnifying glass icon on the left of the screen.

Things to consider when using X (Twitter):

2. Click the search bar at the top of the screen and begin typing in the name of the account you are looking for.

• To create an account, users must be 13 or over. • Be cautious of inappropriate content or language in comments or videos. • You will need to pay to use X Ads and set up an Ads account. You can set up multiple logins for the same account. • X posts appear in real-time so it’s important to keep your feed up to date.
