SFX track athletes gear up
later this month. “We have some really good athletes this year,” Stoqua said. “Including some Grade 9s coming in who should do well.” Among the athletes Stoqua cited as ones to watch for this season for SFX are Gabrielle Campeau in senior girls 400-metre, Emily Sullivan in senior girls discus and shot put, Kayla Stewart in senior girls javelin, and Stephanie Koch inmidget girls shot put and discus.

RUSC Challengers Rockland United Soccer Club (RUSC) is wor- king to be an all-inclusive club by launching a new project this season called the Challenger Program. It is designed to attract local youth who have special needs and are either unable to participate in or do not feel comfortable participating in the existing RUSC development programs. The summer program will run from June 4 through to August 6. If enough players register, there will be two age groups for U5 to U9 and U10 to U15. The club has a set of pre-designed sessions, forming a progressive development program throughout the season and from season to season. The five groups of sessions cover the ages of 4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10 and 10/12 years. These sessions will be used and adapted where necessary for the Challenger Program. During the warm-ups and the soccer skill development and drills, everybody is expected to be on the field. For any scrimmages or games, due to age, size and ability differences, players will be subdivided so that players are less likely to be injured and everyone has the opportunity to touch the ball. Sessions will be Thursday evenings, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Dutrisac Park at the intersection of Caron and Laurier streets. RUSC will provide a bilingual coach and assistants. Parents and guardians are required to be present and participate as much as possible during sessions. For more information, email rusccsur@bellnet.ca or phone 613-446-2787.
