RDHS track stars face first major meet

Results of the first major meet for the Rockland District High School (RDHS) track-and-field teamhave brought a smile to the face of Coach Karen Kryviak. «We did well,» Kryviak said, regarding the aftermath of the University of Ottawa High School Invitational on May 1. «Better than at all the Domemeets. Most of them (RDHS athletes) are finishing the top half.» The Ottawa U High School Invitation at the Terry Fox Field near Mooney’s Bay last Friday saw RDHS as one of only two teams from Prescott-Russell competing against a horde of high school track-and-field squads fromall around the Ottawa area. Le Sommet from Hawkesbury was the other Prescott- Russell school to challenge the dominance of Ottawa at the meet. Coach Kryviak noted that RDHS perfor- med well in long jump, the 100-metre sprints and also one of themiddle-distance running events. «The 400-metre, we’re doing well,» she said, adding that, in past years, Rockland has been a strong contender in that particular mid-distance track event. This Friday, Kryviak takes about a dozen members of the track squad back to Terry Fox Field for the National Capital High School Classic. Track results (girls) Brook Savoie : 11th, midget 400-metr
