representatives were expected from societies across Elgin, Lambton Shores, Middlesex, Oxford and Perth County. There are several events upcoming this spring, which Richard excitedly highlights. On May 17th at the CASO Station, their Annual Plant Sale Garden Emporium will be celebrated. Richard emphasizes, “We’ll have annuals, perennials and garden accessories, as well as participating local crafters.” This grand event is open to the public, operating from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. On May 27th at the CASO Station, Steve Peters will present during their Future of Food Production meeting. This gathering will commence at 7:00 pm, and members of the public are once again invited to join in on the educational and entertaining opportunity. On June 24th, members of The Hort will carpool to Sparta Lavender Farm for their highly anticipated field trip. In detailing the process of becoming a member, Richard warmly welcomes, “Come to our meeting, and visit the membership table where we will have information available. We have a speaker present at our meetings, as well as refreshments, door prizes, our Mini Flower Show, and we also have what’s called ‘Adopt a Table’ – where people bring in items they don’t want anymore, and individuals have the opportunity to pick up an item for free.” For those interested, membership costs $20.00 per individual, or $25.00 for a family with two adults residing at the same address.
To conclude, Richard voices what excites him about the St. Thomas and District Horticultural Society: “That we have been active in the community for so long. We are an open and inclusive society, valuing connection. We look forward to continuing our involvement in the community, and honouring the incredible longevity of The Hort.” With inquiries, peruse the St. Thomas and District Horticultural Society Facebook page to contact a representative.
