Missions for Life ‘26: Bolivia by Peri Hayes This March Break, Katy and Jeremy Males, alongside their children, Rachyl, Joshua and Levi, travelled through Missions for Life to Bolivia. With their team of 14, the Nuevo Palmar Retreat Centre was their base of operations for the week. This is also where they facilitated their children’s camp, attended by approximately 40- 50 children from two local churches. The children were greeted by a welcome line upon their arrival, with chants prepared to begin their day cheerfully. Camp leaders led the children through a variety of group games and songs about faith, as well as listened to the Gospel, performed skits for each other, danced together, enjoyed a hearty meal – a luxury for many – before heading home with thoughtfully crafted goodie bags in hand. One of the standout activities was their Bolivians VS Canadians soccer game, with the home team winning. As well, a group of volunteers assisted in building a new outdoor kitchen. The team dedicated time to pulling up stone and levelling the ground in order to dig trenches for the footings. The crew did endure setbacks due to the rain, with the previously shovelled holes in need of emptying. Afterward, the footings and foundation walls were poured. The local crew have since continued on with the project, installing water lines, curing the foundations, putting up the walls and so forth – all the while, sharing photos with their new Canadian companions throughout the process. Throughout their week in Bolivia, team members also packed food staples which they then delivered to local widows in need. pasta, rice, sugar and more, along with cleaning supplies and toiletries. Katy and Jeremy visited four widows who were most appreciative of the company and shared prayer. One widow in particular was unable to retrieve the avocado trees in her backyard. Katy and Jeremy harvested about six for her, and she graciously insisted that they leave with a couple for themselves.
