13. The Growing Temple “In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord” (Eph. 2:21). Already for 1900 years that temple has been growing. The world does not dream of it, and three-quarters of the church does not see it, but there it is, growing; and every true soul that is in Christ today is a living stone in that temple. And all is the outcome of Christ’s work. He won the victories. . . . He drew us, and therefore we came to Him. He brought us into contact with Himself.—Hubert Brooke. 14. Knowledge or Obedience? “Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the Lord thy God” (Deut. 27:10). Samuel Rutherford wrote: “We but play about the borders and margent of the knowledge of Christ as children do with the golden covering and silk mark ers of an Arabic Bible that they cannot read.” There is room for much more of that divine knowledge in us all. But the ultimate reason for our troubled hearts is not that we do not know much more, but that we do not obey more. ■—Colin C. Kerr. 15. ,The Fight of Faith “By little and little I will drive them out from before thee” (Ex. 23:30). Is my life, then, to be a perpetual war fare? Is it only little by little that I am to conquer my spiritual foes. . . . ? The rest which He offers thee is a rest not from struggle, but in struggle. He has a higher gift for thee than the mere cessation from life’s battle: His gift to thee is the power to fight. Changed to His Image “We all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image” (2 Cor. 3:18). We do not become holy by looking into our own hearts. We shall find only cor ruption there. We are to look off unto Jesus, and as He becomes the object of our hearts, as ,we contemplate His holi ness, purity, love, and compassion, His devotion to the Father’s will, we shall be changed, imperceptibly to ourselves, perhaps, but none the less surely, into His blessed image.—Harry Ironside. 17. Casting and Carrying "Cast not away therefore your confi dence, which hath great recompense of reward” (Heb. 10:35). It is His will that I should cast My care on Him each day; He also tells me NOT to cast my Confidence away. But, oh, how foolishly I act, When taken unaware: 16.

the full results of the sacrifice of the cross have their fruition, and man has come back into complete peace in the will of God.—W. W. Martin. 9, For Those Who Help by Prayer "Be ye therefore sober, and watch un to prayer. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves” (1 Pet. 4:7, 8). The man who prays only for himself will not find it easy to be in the right attitude toward God. But where the heart is filled with fervent love to oth ers, prayer will continually rise to God for those whom we love, and even for those with whom we do not agree. . . . If you wish your love to grow and in crease, forget yourself, and pray, pray earnestly, for God’s children and His church.—Andrew Murray. To Live Is Christ “For to me to live is Christ” (Phil. 1 : 21 ). - „Life is to be as Christ, for Christ, by,. tn, and from Christ. So shall there be strength, peace, and freedom in our days. The unity brought into life there by will issue in calm blessedness, con trasted wondrously with the divided hearts and aims which fritter our days into fragments, and make our lives heaps of broken links instead of chains. This is the charm which brings rest into the most troubled history, and nobleness into the lowliest duties. —Alexander Maclaren. 11. Dwelling in the Secret Place “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psa. 91:1).. If only we could . . . maintain that hallowed attitude of spirit, we should need few exhortations beside. We should be perfectly satisfied with Himself. . . . We should, fear no foe, fighting under the Captain’s eye. . . . How strong, how sweet, how happy should we be, if only we could dwell in the unbroken enjoy ment of the presence of the King—so that He should be first in every thought, and act, and moment of life! —F. B. Meyer. Eloquence “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh” (Matt. 12:34). When you are full of love you are always eloquent, and when the Spirit, who is love, dwells in fullness within, you will have the rhetoric of God, even if your sentences are broken. . . . And if you are filled with the Spirit, there will be a gleam, in your eye, and a thrill in your voice, and people will say, “God speaks through that man.” —W. Y. Fullerton. 10. 12.
