Tory wants Alfred College kept open
College could remain open and in opera- tion through provisions of the French Lan- guage Services Act. Villeneuve-Robertson criticized the pro- vincial government for the original decision to close down the two colleges and not an- nouncing the decision to keep Alfred Col- lege open until close to the end of the pro- vincial election campaign. “My question to them is where were they two months ago when Kathleen Wynne came into the riding and announced that she was closing down two Eastern Ontario agricultural colleges? How dare they come and tell us they are shutting key agricultural colleges down?” Villeneuve-Robertson noted that her father, Noble Villeneuve, who was agricul- ture minister during the Harris Progressive Conservative government, forged an agree- ment in 1997 with the University of Guelph to maintain Alfred College as both an ag- ricultural college and one that served the francophone student community in Eastern Ontario. She credited the efforts of la Cité colle- giale and Collège Boréal for working on a proposal that would keep the Alfred and Kemptville campuses open as regional ag- ricultural education and research facilities. Villeneuve-Robertson would also support a proposal for Alfred College to operate as an autonomous and independent institution. Villeneuve-Robertson noted that the main obstacle for either plan is lack of bud- getary information from the University of Guelph and the provincial government. “We need a long-term strategic plan in place,” she said. “But we also need the num- bers, we need the figures, to figure out an appropriate budget.”

ALFRED | If the Progressive Conservatives score the most votes on the June 12 pro- vincial ballot, then the party’s candidate in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell knows what she is going to do the day after Election Day. Roxane Villeneuve-Robertson plans to phone Progressive Conservative leader Tim Hudak and one of the top items on her list of phone topics will be Alfred College. “One of the key important things in this election campaign,” said Villeneuve-Rob- ertson during a June 4 stop in Alfred, “is making sure that we keep our agricultural industry alive and well in Eastern Ontario.” She sees keeping Alfred College open and operating as a priority for a growing agri- cultural industry in both her riding and the region overall. Right now the future is un- certain for both the Alfred and Kemptville campuses of the University of Guelph. “My number one mandate I’ve made clear during this election campaign is to ensure that the Alfred and the Kemptville colleges remain open and viable for the long-term in the agriculture industry.” Earlier this year the University of Guelph announced that the two campuses could be closing as part of its budgetary cutbacks. CONSÉCRATION DE L’ÉGLISE DE LA TRÈS-SAINTE-TRINITÉ DE ROCKLAND Dans le cadre du 125e anniversaire de sa fondation, notre église sera consacrée le dimanche 15 juin 2014 lors d’une liturgie eucharistique à 10 heures. Cette célébration sera présidée par Monseigneur Terrence Prendergast, archevêque d’Ottawa, assisté de nombreux concélébrants. «Ce rituel n’a lieu qu’une seule fois dans la vie d’une paroisse». La consécration d’une église est «comme un baptême» de l’édifice sacré et représente l’union étroite entre Dieu et son temple. Souvenons- nous toutefois, que ce n’est pas seulement « l’édifice de pierres qui est consacré mais aussi l’édifice spirituel», c’est-à-dire les paroissien(ne) s qui l’ont bâti, reconstruit à deux reprises, suite à deux incendies et entretenu depuis 125 ans. Quelles sont les conditions préalables et indispensables? Selon l’Abbé Jean-François Morin qui assurait la cure de la paroisse lorsque nous avons débuté l’organisation du 125e, les conditions sont : «Une communauté doit être vivante, viable, stable, capable entre autres de subvenir à ses finances…une communauté qui a de l’avenir». «Cette cérémonie est l’un des gestes les plus solennels des offices chrétiens». Nous ne mentionnons ici que quelques- uns des rituels qui seront vraisemblablement répétés lors de la cérémonie. Elle comprend la consécration de la table de l’Eucharistie, l’onction des douze croix de consécration et le rite de la lumière suivis de chant, notamment les litanies des saints, qui unissent «l’Église de la terre à l’Église du ciel». Lors de cette célébration mémorable, nous aurons le privilège d’honorer trois reliques de saints canonisés récemment; Sainte Marguerite d’Youville, Saint Frère André et Sainte Marie de l’Incarnation.

Cahier spécial publié à l’occasion du 125 e Nous sommes heureux de vous annoncer qu’un cahier spécial sera publié la semaine prochaine pour souligner le 125 e anniversaire de fondation de la paroisse de la Très-Sainte-Trinité. Les Éditions André Paquette et le Journal Vision publieront un supplément de seize pages qui renfermera plusieurs textes et photos pour immortaliser cet événement historique.
