H ood McGowan Kirk LLP (HMK) provided fully comprehensive cost management services for Queen’s University Belfast in support of Felix O’Hare’s (FOH) delivery of the new Student Centre, One Elmwood. Working closely with an exceptionally talented design team and dedicated, experienced representatives of the university, HMK is proud to have played a pivotal role in meeting the client’s ambitious brief. In supporting scheme delivery, HMK addressed several significant commercial challenges. It led a detailed, multi-disciplinary value engineering process which materially reduced cost without derogating from the client’s vision for the completed facility. It managed the target cost
contract and the administrative and audit obligations critical to successfully deliver under this arrangement. It worked collaboratively with FOH and the client to mitigate the impact of inflation throughout the contract period, and operated in an agile, flexible manner to incorporate scope change expediently and without undue cost. HMK enjoys a longstanding relationship with Queen’s University Belfast and has delivered many major projects across its historic campus.
