WASHROOMS AND CUBICLES
W ith over 50 years’ expertise, JP Corry’s washroom division was the perfect partner to manufacture, supply and fit out all toilet and shower areas for the Queen’s University Student Centre project. The scope of works included the manufacture and installation of toilet cubicles, IPS panels and large mirror units. Specification for all products was
of the highest grade, with rebated flush fronted cubicles and solid grade IPS panels. Commenting, Gary Henderson, Contracts Manager for JP Corry said, “Fitting the toilet cubicles with no visible fixings was challenging as was fitting the large mirrors above the wash troughs. But our experienced team of joiners were well able for that job and accomplished this with a great finish.”
He added, “This is a prestigious building for Queen’s University and it was a great privilege to work on it. The project looks amazing on completion.”

STRUCTURAL STEEL
The fabricated steel members were then supplied, delivered and erected on site. Delivery to the tight city site proved to be challenging, with 16-metre-long transfer girders weighing 20-tonne each amongst the package requiring craning in using Walter Watson’s 80-tonne crane. Trevor Irvine, General Manager for Walter Watson was delighted to complete another iconic project for FOH, adding, “This was quite a unique project for us due to the exposed structural steel. Normally, our work is hidden by interior finishes, so it’s great for it to be visible on such an important building for Belfast.”
Walter Watson Ltd, Ireland’s largest family owned structural steel fabricator, provided the visually striking structural steel framework and a galvanised plantroom for the new Queen’s University Student Centre building. Walter Watson Ltd detailed out the steel and designed the steel to steel and steel to concrete connections before fabricating the 500-tonne package of structural steel in four erectable phases at the firm’s Castlewellan workshop.
