Amanda Simard siège à l’Assemblée législative provinciale à titre de députée indépendante depuis plus d’un an, mais elle a exprimé son intérêt à joindre les rangs des libéraux lors de la prochaine élection provinciale. Au cours d’une récente entrevue dans un journal régional, Mme Simard s’est déclarée intéressée à se présenter comme candidate libérale. La députée provinciale de Glen- garry-Prescott-Russell a remporté son siège comme candidate du parti progressiste- conservateur aux élections du printemps 2018. Mais, elle a quitté le caucus, plus tard à l’automne, pour protester contre les politiques du gouvernement Ford à l’égard des francophones. &MMFPDDVQFNBJOUFOBOUMBSSJÍSFCBOEF l’opposition à titre de députée indépendante depuis plus d’un an. Comme résolution pour 2020, le député fédéral de Glengarry- Prescott-Russell, Francis Drouin, a l’intention d’examiner ce qui a bien fonctionné et moins bien fonctionné pour sa circonscription en 2019. Il a
MP Francis Drouin’s 2020 resolu- tion involves reviewing what he did during the past year which helped make things better in the riding of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell. “Obviously serving the constituents remains my main focus,” Drouin said during January 4 interview. “I will look at what went well last year and what went wrong.” One thing the Liberal MP is happy about is that he is further up on the waiting list of MPs who get to present a Private Member’s Bill to Parliament for consideration. Last year Drouin’s name was in the 200s section of the Private Member’s Bill lottery list. This year, he noted, he is 59th on the list. He noted that the chance is slight that he may be able to present his own legislation in the House of Commons this year, though it could happen before the end of 2020. But Drouin expects the odds will better favour him in 2021, which would mean more time to prepare his Private Member’s Bill. “I do have to research what I want to present,” he said, adding that there are a number of issues of concern to him and he has to decide which would take priority. The needs of seniors are important to Drouin, given the aging population in his riding. He would also like to see changes in how federal staff administrate pensions, sup- plements and other support funds for people on fixed incomes, to avoid “overpayment

Do you know the way to Camelot? Be careful about taking a wrong turn or your quest could find you ending up in Spamalot instead. The Russell Association for the Performing Arts (RAPA) celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and, in honour and recognition of anniversary tradition, RAPA members have chosen a real “pearl” of a production to put on stage. Start with a grain of irritating puns and coat them with layers of off-the-wall song-and-dance routines, bold, brave, and sometimes buffoonish knights in armour, or at least almost-real-genuine-simulated-faux armour, a beautiful otherworldly enchantress who is a real diva type, and a legendary king who just wants to do the right thing. Yes, that’s right, it’s Monty Python’s Spamalot! “We’re really good at horrible jokes,” said Joyce Chartrand, with a chuckle, during a phone interview. Chartrand, who has been a RAPA member since 1997, when she was cast for a role in The Nerd, is sitting in the assistant director’s chair for this production. As the AD she is the right-hand-woman for project director/producer Gord Hawkes, helping him get the quest off to a good start and on course to its glorious guffawing end. “I’m another set of ears and eyes here,”

Doubling up is also part of the challenge for some of the 20 cast members, who may also portray one-off walk-on characters in addition to their primary roles. “It is an ambition production,” said Chartrand, “and most of the cast is on stage almost all of the time. There’s lots of singing and dancing. The challenge, for a show this iconic, is you have to find the fine line between slavishly reproducing what has been done before, and letting the actors infuse some of their own personalities into the roles.” The Quest for Spamalot! begins the last week of April and continues to its hilarious end during the first week of May. she said. “Gord is an excellent director, with great vision, and he asked me to help, so I said ‘Yes,’ since I can’t sing.” Something completely different Spamalot! is the musical version of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, a British comedy classic movie that took the revered Legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, turned it upside down and spun it around to see who and what falls out.
Since RAPA has an anniversary this year, Spamalot! seemed a logical choice. “It’s like the Holy Grail of musical plays, isn’t it?” said Chartrand, chuckling. “At RAPA we like doing stuff that is a bit off-beat. This is a Big Picture piece but with a little bit of edge and a little off-the-wall. And besides, it’s the Quest of the Holy Grail!” Just as in the movie, the knights never ride around on horses; they trot around, knocking together coconut shell halves to mimic the sound of horse hooves. Expect to hear a lot of coconut-clacking during Spa- malot! That is assuming the set deco and props’ gang is able to find enough coconuts for everyone who wants to go “horse riding.” Otherwise some folks may need to “double up” on their coconuts.

Le Comptoir Deguire et ses bénévoles ont organisé, le 22 décembre dernier, un diner bien spécial du temps des Fêtes pour les personnes qui étaient seules durant cette période. La municipalité de Casselman et 417 Bus Line ont été d’une aide précieuse dans la réalisation de cet évènement. Une navette était offerte pour les personnes qui désiraient participer à ce souper, qui s’est tenu au Centre communautaire de Casselman. Notice of Commencement and Public Open House Terms of Reference for an Environmental Assessment Future Development of the Eastern Ontario Waste Handling Facility GFL Environmental Inc., the owner and operator of the existing Eastern Ontario Waste Handling Facility (EOWHF) in Moose Creek, Ontario, has initiated an Environmental Assessment (EA) seeking approval for the future development of the EOWHF. The future development will involve the construction of additional landfill disposal capacity. GFL has determined that there is a sustainable business opportunity and need for the EOWHF to continue to provide disposal capacity over the long term. By developing this additional disposal capacity, GFL will also be able to continue providing economical waste diversion and green bin organics composting services to customers into the future. The EOWHF is a major employer and financial contributor to the local community. The development of an additional 15.1 million cubic metres of disposal capacity over a 20 year planning period will allow GFL to continue to provide this type of economic support to the local community. No changes to the approved fill rates or site access routes are proposed. The EOWHF is located within the Township of North Stormont, approximately 5 kilometres north-northwest of the village of Moose Creek, Ontario, and 5 kilometres east of the village of Casselman, Ontario. The proposed future development will be on land currently owned or to be owned by GFL, and may include an area of the existing EOWHF if necessary. The location of the existing EOWHF and the proposed future development are shown on the Key Plan below. The purpose of the EA is to assess the potential effects of the future development on the environment. The Process The EA will be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act . The first step in the process is the preparation of a Terms of Reference. The Terms of Reference will set out the proponent’s framework and work plan for addressing the Environmental Assessment Act requirements when preparing the EA, including such things as the alternatives that will be considered and the public consultation activities that will be carried out. If approved by the Minister, the Terms of Reference will provide the framework and requirements for the preparation of the EA. KEY PLAN

Développement du futur centre de traitement des déchets de l’est de l’Ontario GFL Environmental Inc., propriétaire et exploitant de l’actuel centre de traitement des déchets de l’est de l’Ontario (EOWHF) à Moose Creek, en Ontario, a entrepris une évaluation environnementale (EE) en vue d’obtenir l’approbation pour le futur développement du EOWHF. Le futur développement comprendra la construction d’une capacité supplémentaire d’élimination du site d’enfouissement. GFL a déterminé qu’il y a une occasion d’affaires durable et que l’EOWHF doit continuer à fournir une capacité d’élimination à long terme. En développant cette capacité d’élimination supplémentaire, GFL sera également en mesure de continuer à fournir des services de réduction de déchets et de compostage des matières organiques à ses clients. L’EOWHF est un employeur et un contributeur financier important pour la communauté locale. Le développement d’une capacité d’élimination supplémentaire de 15,1 millions de mètres cubes sur une période de planification de 20 ans permettra à GFL de continuer à fournir ce type de soutien économique à la collectivité locale. Le futur développement proposé sera situé sur des terrains qui appartiennent actuellement ou qui seront détenues par GFL, et pourrait inclure une zone de l’EOWHF existant si nécessaire. L’emplacement de l’EOWHF existant et le futur développement proposé sont indiqués dans le Plan clé ci-dessous. L’EE a pour objet d’évaluer les effets potentiels du futur développement sur l’environnement. Le processus L’EE sera effectuée conformément aux exigences de la Loi sur l’évaluation environnementale . La première étape du processus est la préparation du cadre de référence. Le cadre de référence établira le cadre de travail et le plan de travail du promoteur pour répondre aux exigences de la Loi sur l’évaluation environnementale au moment de préparer l’EE, y compris les solutions de rechange qui seront envisagées et les activités de consultation publique qui seront menées. Si le ministre l’approuve, le cadre de référence fournira le cadre et les exigences pour la préparation de l’EE. PLAN CLÉ
Consultation Members of the public, agencies, Indigenous communities and other interested persons are encouraged to actively participate in the planning process by attending consultation opportunities or contacting staff directly with comments or questions. Consultation opportunities are planned throughout the planning process and will be advertised in local newspapers, on the project website www.gflenv.com/moose-creek-eowhf and by direct and/or electronic mail (email). A Public Open House to introduce the project, discuss the development and contents of the Terms of Reference, the EA process, and the consultation process that will be followed during the development of the EA is scheduled for Thursday, January 30th, 2020 at the MooseCreekRecreationCentre, 4 St PolycarpSt, MooseCreek, ON from4p.m. to8p.m. You are encouraged to attend and participate in helping us identify issues, interests or ideas to be addressed in the EA.
