A SEASON’S GREETINGS FROM THE NEW AUSTRALIAN CONSUL-GENERAL IN HONG KONG & MACAU
INTER-CHAMBER CHRISTMAS PARTY IN MACAU
T he inter-chamber Christmas party in Macau was absolutely fantastic this year with mild cool weather creating the perfect atmosphere for our celebration across the different Chambers in Macau. It was a truly special day especially when we spoke with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, they brought us a wonderful choir from the International School of Macau who sang some beautiful Christmas carols. The talented students were truly adorable and their performance warmed the hearts of many at the Artyzen Grand Lapa Hotel. We are deeply thankful to them. The event was graced by the presence of officials from the American, British, Canadian, European and French Chamber of Commerce organisations, and the Italian Chamber of Commerce who joined us from Hong Kong. We prepared lovely Christmas hampers filled with goodies, including Tim Tams, Vegemite, and Aussie wine, as well as delicacies. The participants also mentioned
how amazing the event was and we couldn't agree more. It is delightful to see so many expats and locals coming together, creating one big, happy family. The atmosphere is filled with lighthearted jokes and mobile phones were clicking away as people capture selfies and group pictures. It truly is the best time of the year to share joy and happiness, embodying the essence of Christmas. Many of the attendees came from Hengqin and nearby regions, including Hong Kong. The general sentiment is that it is lovely to come and share this wonderful atmosphere in Macau. What a wonderful sensation it is.

ARTM RECEIVES GENEROUS DONATION FROM AUSTCHAM
I t was a great feeling to donate and help the community and the Australian Chamber of Commerce Macau has been dedicated to this cause for many years, particularly in support of the amazing Macau NGO organization, the ARTM which we have been supporting for an extended period. ARTM offers detox and rehab for various addictions at two centers. They have done a remarkable job. During our Movember event including our luncheon and trivia night, we managed to raise 40,000 MOP and we also received donations from other members in the community. At the ARTM annual ball in the MGM ballroom, our treasurer Mr Patrick Liu, presented a cheque to the ARTM chairman, Mr Augusto Nogueira. This is truly a fantastic achievement and we extend our sincere congratulations to all involved. We look forward to continuing our charitable efforts in the future.
AUSTCHAM MACAU QUIZ NIGHT IN SUPPORT OF MEN’S HEALTH A NOT SO TRIVIAL FUNDRAISING EVENT! By Stephen Berry, Director AustCham Macau
MOVEMBER
I was very happy to once again host this year’s AustCham Macau Trivia Night which has become an annual AustCham Macau charity event raising funds for the Movember campaign and ARTM here in Macau. With the moniker of Changing the Faces of Men’s Health in Macau the trivia night has already established itself as highly popular and entertaining event in the Macau calendar.

Wednesday evening on the 22nd of November saw the Roadhouse Macau come alive with patrons all of whom had come to join this year’s trivia night. The rock ‘n roll décor of The Roadhouse was a fitting mise en scene for the event which at it’s heart is a pub quiz. The ambience was further enhanced by the wonderful costumes and outfits which many teams exhibited in the hope of snaring the best dressed team or individual prize. Some of the outfits were truly amazing and added considerable colour and flare to the evening. AustCham Macau director Eddie McDougall who has been a key champion in the Chamber for Movember was delighted with the success of the evening noting, “to see the community come together like this to raise funds for important charities while sharing a great camaraderie and spirit is truly heartening.”

AUSTCHAM MEMBER’S SPOTLIGHT
WINSON: SECURING MACAU’S CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE G rowing up in Aberdeen, Macau- born Vinni Leong became acquainted with Scotland’s
whiskey and happy hour culture. Upon returning to the SAR at the age of 24, he aimed to bring the same vibe to the city and opened a bar in Fai Chi Kei, which he still operates. "You can find a bit of everything—whiskey, wine, beer, snacks, and that laid-back happy hour feel." During the pandemic, he expanded his reach to the mainland by opening a shop in Zhuhai and now sets his sights on Guangzhou and Hengqin. Meanwhile, his group is gearing up to launch a second bar at Broadway Macau in the second quarter of 2024. Vinni Leong emphasises the optimistic prospects in Hengqin, pointing to the Macau New Neighbourhood and the increasing number of residents moving there. "I believe it's the right time
to invest there." His company, Winson Group, of which Vinni Leong is the CEO, already has a presence in Hengqin as part of their IT business operations. Technology and cybersecurity have become integral components of the group’s business activities, alongside F&B and initial investments and operations related to real estate, priority management, and cleaning and security services. Looking ahead, Vinni Leong expresses confidence in the city’s business prospects. “I see a rapid recovery in Macau. Looking forward to 2024, I anticipate Macau playing a more significant role in attracting not only foreign tourists but also investments and partnerships,” he remarks.
